After a long flight, my stomach always feels weird, so what I would want is a fresh fruit or veggie tray, and maybe some cheese and crackers. Something people can nibble on while everyone sits around talking and catching up.

Well, is there anything particular they love to have here and just can't wait for? I have an aunt who comes to the US from England every so often, and just wants to have a nice big deli sandwich! . . . .If so, go for that definitely! . ..If not, I would just have some small snacks out for them. They will probably be pretty tired, and stuff anyhow. Maybe a fruit salad, veggies and dip, or even some small sandwiches. They wouldn't really have eaten in a while, assuming how good the airplane food is!

yes, yes... I vote for the fresh fruit (strawberries/cantelope/watermelon, etc) and cheese/crackers and/or bread. Add sweetness with a sherbert ice cream/little bit of fudge or chocolate (chocolate dipped fruit perhaps?). :)
If there are family members that feel they need more substance have a small platter of deli meat and condiments on the side so they are able to make a sandwich to their liking... if you plan effectively, everyone will be able to have a little something to their satisfaction, not too heavy, not too light, especially after a really long flight.
might I also suggest you have some wine to relax some stressful kinks. :)
show off your culinary skills the next day with a lovely brunch!
:)
Good luck and have fun!
:)

I would keep it simple like deli meats and cheese platter with fresh bread and fruit. You got to remember that it is 2am their time and they may just be wiped out and want to sleep. So a simple meal that can be saved for the next day if they are too tired.

bread
sliced ham
your favorite cheese (i like pepper jack for this)
dijon mustard

chives
eggs
to make one sandwich:
make a rioux: 2 butter and 1 tbsp flour, cook flour out, then add 1/4 c. milk, stirring constantly. add 2 tbp dijon mustard and pepper.
toast bread, arrange on plate open face style. in skillet, fry one egg. assemble sandwiches as follows:
bread + sauce + ham +egg + chives + cheese + bread.
serve this with a robust red wine (think south african shiraz or a spanish rioja)

Quesadillas, easy fast and no to heavy or spicy on the tummy.
Pimento Cheese sandwiches, premake spread then just quickly make sandwiches.
Stew or Homemade soup, potato, veggie or broccoli and cheese. Keep hot in Crock Pot until you get home.
Stop at IHOP....everyone gets what they want
