i'm having a "play date" next week. should be 9-10 adults and about 12 kids (mostly age 2 - 3 years).

everybody brings a snack or drink and the host provides the lunch... how much should i get? do you think pizza would be cheaper if the pies are about $8 or $9 each?

Pizza is less work on you but it seems to be served all the time. Although I don't know what your costs will be, I can tell you (from working in a school kitchen) how much lunch meat to plan if you choose that route.

Ask your meat counter person for 1 ounce slices. A child will only need one slice so you could feed all the kids with a pound of meat. If you add cheese to this, they will have plenty of protein in their sandwiches. The adults would probably appreciate 2 ounces of meat and a slice of cheese. So you can make 8 sandwiches per pound of meat.

1.5 lbs of cheese and 3 lbs of meat and you have plenty of sandwiches. You can serve a variety by getting different meats in 1/2 lb packages. However meat can be expensive and you may find it cheaper to do pizza. Good luck, and have fun!

definately get pizza. When you order the kids just cheese or pepperoni, ask the pizza place to cut them small for little kids. You will be surprised how little the children will eat and there will be less waste this way. It is my experience as an avid entertainer who has hosted many a play date. When kids get together they would rather play than eat. Don't order too much for the adults either and serve a veggie tray. They will appreciate it more. My friends do anyway.

LUNCH MEATS ARE CHEAPER WITH OTHER SIDES LIKE CHIPS OR, COLESLAW ETC.... ABOUT 1/4 POUND OF MEAT PER PERSON IF SERVING ONLY THIS,

IDEA : TO BE A FILLER YOU COULD MAKE OTHER SANDWICHES (DIFFERENT SANDWICHES LIKE TUNA, EGGSALAD , PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY) ALONG WITH THE TURKEY AND MAYBE HAM... NO SIDES EXCEPT FOR CHIPS AND MAYBE A DIP AND YOU WOULD ONLY NEED 3/4'S OF A POUND OF EACH MEAT...THE REST YOU PROBABLY HAVE IN THE HOUSE! I WOULD MAKE ABOUT 1 TO 2 SANDWICHES PER PERSON (DEPENDING ON IF THEY ARE EATERS) AND MAKE EQUAL AMOUNTS OF ALL SANDWICHES.... AND YOU CAN CUT THEM IN 4'S.... KIDS LOVE IT!!!

HOPE THIS HELPS I DO IT ALL THE TIME!
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!!
