I asked a different question earlier with this same verse included, nobody could directly answer my question, but, I was told that the sword meant "the word of God", of course non-Christians wouldn't have known that. So, my new question is, when people don't know anything about a religion such as Islam, but are aware of tatics, such as cherrypicking verses from the Quran and taking them completely out of context, why do they not explore Islam more instead of stopping at a single verse and assuming Islam is evil?

djmantx, I am afraid that the misinterpretation by others outside of Islam has caused a great deal of harm to Muslims, and is just as much a problem as the ones who use islam fortheir own evil purposes.

That is a very good question. The problem seems to be that most people, particularly christians (and I am one) are close minded to anything that threatens them or their beliefs and way of life. Thats why most christianity is so fundamental so closed to change and especially the arts. I have been reading the quran myself lately so I will know more about my muslim friends and what they believe. Christians around me think its awful because its not the Bible, but I am educating myself on other cultures and everyone should. It would limit alot of confusion and help the world with its prejudices.

this is because Paul says that a sword is like the word of god, and Jesus brought the word of god, meaning the gospel so Jesus came to bring the gospel. People say Islam is evil because extreme Muslims are responsible for terrorism, however, Christians in the middle ages killed of many people, so Islam is going through a dark age, just like Christianity did.

Its a known and declared fact that Mohammed laid down others' lives (his followers and opponents) to advance surrender to his angel's teaching. There are many violent statements in the Koran. When muslims manage to contextualise this, it is by adding in references to battles and killings of opponents, but that doesn't remove the original violence in the heart and behaviour of Mohammed.
Its the core belief of christians that Jesus laid down His life for us (the good shepherd who loves us and lays down his life to pay for our sins). A few of his sayings can be misinterpretted as violent if you have a mind to it. But a man of good conscience would be ashamed of so doing.
He did imply that his teaching about salvation would bring opposition - from Satan's spiritual forces and men who love their sins and own ideas regarding God - and this would include violent opposition from such people.
Grey with black streaks, compared with light imo.

If you read that whole verse in conext, christ clearly states the conflicts he will create.
Islam, and the Quoran, also clearly has violent verses, even "in" context, just the same as the christain bible..

I would suggest not following either. I have noticed that the Christians are experts at twisting anything around that may read negatively.

Sir why do the many terrorist not consider the Qu'ran in the way that you consider the Qu'ran? The problem is not the misinterpretaions of those who do not follow your religion but the terrorist who think they are following your religion.

Christians tell LIES.....
Bible commentaries say Jesus will return and KILL ALL THOSE who do not believe in him.
Christians weave this great web of lies about Love while knowing that their books say they will soon KILL all who do not bow down to them.
