Can anyone give me ideas for her birthday party because there are only two other children there (boys 9 and 10) the rest are adults. What should I serve for food, dessert, etc. Should I just keep it short and sweet or paly a game or two with adults? Party is inside but we have a huge backyard, pool, no close neighbors. I have already bought her party decorations. They are simple #1 lime green, pink yellow with a teddy bear. SHould I have traditional cake and ice cream or just a sundae bar? Thank you!!

Keep it simple! A first birthday is as much for those gathered as it is the birthday girl, but she still needs to be the focus.
I've noticed that, quite often, the parties for these little ones go over the top & the birthday girl (or boy) ends up rather overwhelmed.
Let everyone enjoy the back yard & the pool if you want, keep it relaxed for everyone, and keep food simple... even just drinks, cake, and ice cream would be acceptable.
I'd say the most important (and fun) part of a birthday is letting the little one dive into their own little cake. That's usually enough entertainment for everyone else gathered.

Well, so far it sounds great! Some of my friends have children but some, like me, don't, so I go to these types of parties fairly regularly.

I would not suggest the games with the adults, but try to have something for the two kids that will be there. Maybe there's a small bouncehouse you could rent or maybe even just pool games where someone could supervise them

I always like the idea of simple grill foods at these kinds of parties. Can someone tend to hotdogs and burgers during the party? Maybe ribs too? Maybe some trays of pasta and some sides?

Not sure about the cake. I LOVE the sundae bar idea, but have not had experience with that. I think the cake would work fine if that the direction you take.

Good luck! Sounds like fun!!

Since it is a child's birthday, keep it that way. I can guarantee the boys are going to hate being at a " babies party". Get them each an inexpensive board game, such as Checkers, Chinese checkers, cards to play the game of War ( one of the older people can teach them ) Look at your local Dollar Tree for the games. This will keep them occupied. Serve Hamburgers, some salads and chips. For dessert, serve birthday cupcakes. Of course, give the Birthday Girl a small cake that she can destroy. One suggestion I would give you is to make sure you get pictures of all the relatives attending. Some may be gone in a few years, and you will want to show her they were at her party. Open the gifts while people are eating. Thank them for coming and end the party. Birthday Girl will be cranky and need a nap.

First birthdays are so adorable. At one, your daughter won't understand all the confusion and excitement. You will be busy, so keep it simple. Have hamburgers and hotdogs (9-10 year olds love them), or whatever your daugher and most of the people like. Pizza is a good alternative, but a bit advanced for her. Have a cake and ice cream. It will save a bit on cleanup. Use paper plates, plastic cups and plastic dinnerware that can be tossed. Forget the games; your daughter won't be interested and most adults aren't either. If she gets a lot of presents, let her open them but put some aside for later so it won't be overwhelming.

I say have a small cake and take pictures. That combined with her opening presents will be plenty of excitement for her. Invite everybody to swim and play volleyball, and grill hamburgers & hot dogs. That's a great party IMO.
