Those particular ones wont grow back but cats are constantly replacing there whiskers. Eventually over time he'll shed the cut ones and have new ones. Dont pluck them or anything the new ones will come soon.

Hey guys come on KIDS are KIDS you should be happy the boy didnt gouge out an eye or cut of his tail... whiskers come back... I am sure she got after the boy for it and if she didnt she will after reading these replies... my nephew did the same thing when he was 6 and he did worse than that but we got after him BIG TIME.

The cat's whiskers will grow back for sure. Did your son cut ALL the whiskers ALL way down? That would take a lot of effort! Even to cut one whisker would cause a commotion. Maybe your son and scissors should be kept apart for a LONG time. If the cat is going to be so cruelly treated it would probably be best if s/he was kept even further apart - like a safe home?

Oh no, the poor cat :-( I'm sure you've given your son a big telling off about it though.

Don't be alarmed if your cat starts bumping into things and getting stuck. You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, a cat's whiskers are essential for balance and judging what gaps the cat can fit through (the whiskers are exactly the width of the cat's body!); so make sure you hide all scissors away and make sure your little boy knows never to do it again.

If you let your cat outside usually, you might want to keep him in for a while, or make sure he stays in your garden where you can see him. He could easily get into a dangerous situation outside without his whiskas now. I really hope your son knows the impact of what he has done and that he isn't allowed to have scissors on his own anymore.

If your son is older than 6 years old he should have known not to do this, so I hope you've thought up a suitable punishment for him!

They will grow back in time.

xx Emmie

A five year old was not thinking about hurting the cat. I have six grandsons and their minds work in mysterious ways.
A cat uses his whiskers to gage width, so he may have some problems in that area until they grow back.
I know that you had a talk with your son and I'm sure this was a learning experience for both of you. No scissors for a five year old and a lesson on how to treat his cat.

Sounds like you have a normal healthy inquisitive little boy!!! Don't worry bout the cat he'll be fine. Your cat may run into things and have no sense of balance but now ur boy knows why a cat has whiskers so he learned something. Don't be too hard on the kid "seeing is believing". Kids learn better from experience than being told.

Yes, but make sure it doesn't happen again. A cats whiskers are a guide. It has to do with the length of the whiskers and the cats overall width. They use that as a guide when going through narrow places.

Yes they will grow back. Will the cats trust of people grow back. That's a bit harder to determine.
My friends daughter cut their cats whiskers off. He became one of the most cranky cats around, everyone said. But then I think she may have been torturing him other ways as well.
Maybe keep your son away from the cat for a while.

your not supposed to cut cat whiskers because they grow as long as there body is wide so it they go behind your chair if the whiskers get bent that means they wont fit behind the chair so they back up for your cat I'm pretty sure they should grow back but never cut the whiskers ever again cats need them

The cat will be disorientated until they grow back they are used to measure space cats can get into the smallest of places if their whiskers go in the whole cat will follow now your cat has no way of telling and may get stuck and that's a fact they will grow back. But you have taken his nine lives away from him his judgement his antenna he will have to depend on luck for a while.

Wht in the world did your 5 year old have scissor with out supervision? Your son should have known better. Check your parenting skills.
I belive they should grow back in. But your cat wil have lots of problem for the rst of his life.
Personally I believe the cat and anyother pets should be removed from your home until your son is older you learn to watch him closer. Take some parenting classes. You are the one in the wrong here.
