I have been vegetarian since I was 10. That's 17 years as a veggie now. last september, after not eating meat for at least 16 years, I had crept up to 206 lbs. And I'm a 5'3" girl! Oh yeah vegetarians can be overweight. Most junk foood (doughnuts, potato chips, etc) are vegetarian, remember! Too much pasta and bread, not enough exercise, too many "candybar and sodas" between meals.. oh yeah we can be overweight! I sure was.

I have since been working super hard at losing weight, and am now down to 140 lbs.

Oh there are plenty! Especially if you replace all your protein with starchy carbs! Mars Bars are still vegetarian. A Mars bar contains 12g of fat and 230 calories. An average person needs 2000 calories a day, which is fewer than nine Mars bars!

You ask the question like you're trying to prove a point ... maybe you're just not looking hard enough?

There are many overweight vegetarians. Vegetarianism is not a weight loss diet, it is a meat eliminating diet. There are LOTS of vegetarian junk foods so vegetarians can easily become fat.

I have met one who was an one who still is. The one that was got so addicted to soy meat and soy milk and ice cream that she gained about 45 lbs but then realized that she had to start eating other food because her body started converting protien into fat. Who ever said vegetarians don't get enough protien needs to meet her. The one that still is thrives off sweets much like several non-vegetarians.

Wow, funny you asked that because I know a few vegetarians who are overweight. They do not eat junk food or drink soda or pop or whatever you call it where you are. One lady eats these horrible tasting veggie hot dogs at picnics. She also does not eat a lot of dairy and only eats Weight Watchers bread when she eats it. Whole grain pasta not white. Still, they are quite chunky. The one lady walks all the time too.

Yes, I knew one who was very overweight. He was a 'vegetarian' because he didn't eat meat, but he also didn't eat much fruit or veggies either, just junk.

Sure there are. Vegetarians can eat crappy junk food and not exercise just like anybody else.
