Adopt a stream. This way you learn the chemical balance of nature.

Adopt a Road - So you will learn to never litter again.

Sponsor a Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day. Contact your state department of environmental quality and learn how much hazardous material you really generate.

Tour a publicly owned treatment works (find out what happens after you flush).

Visit an ethanol refinery, if there is one nearby, and ask them how many gallons of oil it takes to produce 10 gallons of ethanol (the answer is 8). Then ask them how much government subsidy they get per gallon (around a $1).

Review some permits from the DEQ and see how much the largest employer in your county can legally discharge.

One of the first things you should do IMO is to get involved with your local Habitat for Humanity chapter. You can learn how a home is built and see what they are doing to build them more efficiently and environmentally friendly.

Other good activities include starting a community garden at school growing only naitive plants to your area.

You can also host clean up drives, recycling events, and so on.

Start your club off right by making a plan for the year right away. Make a list of all of the goals and activities you'd like to accomplish and get your sponsor's feedback. Good luck!

i'm part of an enviromental club at my high school
here are some things you can do
1) clean up your school playground or feild
2) have a bake sale or something to raise money for things like ashtrays for smokers, etc
3) you can also start recycling at your school if you do't do that already

Start with your school. Look at what could be done to make it more responsible environmentally.

You will of course be faced with opposition from a system than favors doing as little as it can get away with, people who knuckle-walk out of their caves to call you nasty names and try to shoot you down. This is all good training, try to stay calm in the face of idiocy and learn how to defuse the paleolithic brain.
