i've had turducken many times and while i think it is good, i don't think that it is better than a well made turkey...the reason is that a turducken is so dense when it cooks that you really overcook the turkey, so it tends to be drier than it should be. some people think it is moister, but it is just greasier from the duck, not actually moister...and you usually have to get a tom turkey instead of a hen...which is not as good...so i would rather eat a smaller turkey roasted by a good cook, than eat the best turducken any day...

Turducken has it's place as does Turkey. For an upscale meal and presentation I would take the turducken,(I am not overly fond of dark meat). The turkey has it's own place and has more ways to be used. It cost way less, and still makes a great sandwich the day after the big meal.Turducken is a little harder to cook, with the duck part that should be cooked med. rear(pink in the center) and the chicken and the turkey that should be cooked to the no pink state.

I love turducken! Cajuns come up with some of the BEST food around!
Yes, we either buy one prepared, or make on every year...a whole party in your mouth.
I like turkey as well, but it is a much simpler flavor, really no comparison!

I certainly would rate it a lot higher than turkey, I always want to try this if ever I would visit Louisiana during thanksgiving!!!
We also have a something similar but not turkey in Chinese Cuisine. It's a duck stuffed with a chicken then stuffed with a quail, each bird marinated in different marinade for about 6 hours or 1 night before stuffing. Sightly deep fry the stuffed duck in oil then braise with ginger, garlic, leek, dried scallops, oyster sauce and rock sugar for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Very good for serving with steamed rice & boiled vegetables!
Yummy!!!!

You know, I'm a traditionalist. I like duck, turkey, chicken and even turducken. However, I like the simplicity of the flavors by themselves more, and I think it is because of what I associate those flavors with: duck- canard a l'orange in Paris, chicken- my husband's hungarian csirke paprikas and turkey- family holidays. Nothing against the turducken concept itself, but it's overkill for me.

This dish sounds good. I have never heard of it, but i would try it anyway! It probably is better than just turkey, as sometimes turkey can just taste dry and bland!
And to Ellen D, yes it is a real dish, i looked it up!
