Hey there, so I do not like dairy products, I will eat yougurt occasionally, but that is a rare sight and only when I'm not feeling well, what are some other foods I can obtain this calcium from? Since I am still growning and such. Or what else can I drink? should I try soy, almond or rice milk?

THanks for the advice paul, but we've tried that already, I don't eat any dairy products. They make me sick. :/

You could try soy milk...Or maybe rolaids?? Check out how much Calcium is in them! Actually there is 675mg of calcium carbonate in rolaids...Or, take a calcium supplement...preferably including Vitamin D.
Another food you could eat is broccoli...Broccoli has calcium!

There are plenty other things that have calcium in it. Soy milk can work in place of milk. If you like seaweed that's a good way of getting calcium. Then there's sesame and almonds (like you mentioned). Green vegetables like broccoli and beans are a good source. Molasses can be put in different foods to *** some calcium as well. Also there is calcium in oranges and if you haven't already seen they have orange juice that is enhanced with extra calcium. The only problem is that in order to get the calcium you need the Vitamin D to absorb it. For fish there are sardines (also with calcium)which are very easy to prepare especially since the bones are really soft and edible. There's also tuna and salmon which tastes really good. Bread, cereal, and some butters and margarines have vitamin D in them. If you look at your labels on some stuff it will give you a better idea of which stuff are actually a good source and which ones are a waste of time.

i agree w/ paul ... i know you say that dairy products make you sick, but it's because they've been processed. raw milk gives you what you need w/o giving you the bloating & intolerance that processed dairy gives most people. you'd be surprised.

also, i would not suggest soy products, as these are also processed foods (like any other) and are not healthy for you in reality. i know that soy is a huge market now, and many people rely on advertising that it's good for you, but it's really not. i would stay away from it unless you eat the raw soy beans.

so, in answer to your question, in order to get your daily calcium intake, if you still don't want to try raw milk, because you choose not to or it's not available in your area, try taking calcium supplements, or eat collard, turnip or mustard greens, broccoli, kale, sesame seeds, bok choy, beans (pretty much any kind - black, pinto, navy, white, etc), almonds, sardines, salmon, oats, okra, rutabaga, oranges.

This is going to sound bizarre but it works.
First off you have to ensure you're absorbing the calcium you do eat _ plenty of Vitamin C and lots of Vitamin D (from sunlight).
The best source of Calcium that I've come across is Egg Shells. Yep, I told you it was bizarre - but its true.
They're crunchy, to say the least, but they're not so bad if you've got nothing else around & don't like dairy. If you think about it they're pure Calcium so if you eat one per day you'll get a great intake & not have to worry about dairy products.

* Many non-dairy milks are now fortified with calcium, vitamin D, and/or vitamin B-12. Many orange juices are fortified with calcium.

* Shake calcium fortified non-dairy milks before pouring as the calcium can settle on the bottom.

* The calcium in kale, broccoli, collard greens, and soymilk is absorbed about the same percentage as that in cows' milk.

* The calcium in spinach, Swiss chard, and beet greens is not well absorbed, due to their high content of oxalates, which bind calcium.

* Calcium supplements can inhibit iron absorption if eaten at the same time.

* In addition to the calcium in the leafy greens listed on the right, leafy greens also contain vitamin K which is good for bones.

* The Daily Value for calcium on food labels is 1,000 mg. Therefore, if a food label says it has 25% of the daily value, it means it has 250 mg of calcium per serving.

Almond milk. Almonds naturally contain more calcium than any other nut. Each 100 grams of almonds contains about 27% RDA of calcium. Plus, it's actually quite delicious! My 10 year old son is a huge fan of the chocolate flavor! :)

Dairy products are the biggest source of calcium, so you have to look to find other sources, In addition to leafy green vegetables, you may want to look for foods that have calcium added: Soy beverages/milk with added calcium and Orange Juice with added calcium are two that come to mind. Several of the major Orange Juice brands now make juice with the additional calcium, and there is no noticable taste difference.

You may also want to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about calcium suppliment pills. Some brands are more easily absorbed by the body than other brands, so it is a good idea to talk to someone whose advice you trust about which brands are best.

You may be allergic to dairy products. My advice is to take a good calcium supplement . They can be found near the vitamins of your grocery store or health food store. You really do calcium for your bone health. Good health!

You can go to your doctor and ask he/she if they know anything that can help you for calcium. I would suggest calcium pills but since you said you were growing I'm not sure how old you are. Just go ask your mom and dad and if they don't know then tell them to set up an appointment so you can ask the doctor to ask how to get more calcium. Hope I helped!

Try soy milk. Many people who don't like dairy like soy milk, especially the vanilla flavor. Silk contains as much as or more calcium than milk, plus lots of other vitamins.
