I usually talk with them and let them know that I am aware of their history and what they believe. Then I share the gospel with them and what I believe. It is always a friendly meeting and neither of us converts the other but we both part believing some good seed was planted. They are as sincere about what they believe as I am.

Well the reason Jehovah's Witnesses go from house to house isn't because there trying to convert people. Think about it this way, if you look at the state of the world with floods, was & everything else there isn't much to look forward to in life. Witnesses go & try to share a comforting message from the Bible & God's promise for the future.
Psalms 37:10,11
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
People need something to look forward to something better. You must agree that human governments cant bring peace.
Jeremiah 10:23
23 I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
It would seem logical that we look to God to help us since he made us in the first place & knows whats best for us.
Jesus gave the commission to go out to preach
“Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, .”—Matt. 28:19.
That's part of the Lords Prayer or the Model Prayer. That's exactly what Jehovah's Witnesses do today, they follow Jesus commandment to go out & preach. Over 6 million Jehovah's Witnesses preach in 235 lands around the world & it's all voluntary.
The next time the Witnesses call on your door why don't you ask them why they go around the doors. They'll be very happy to answer those questions for you.
Why don't you visit the website & have a look around. You'll find some interesting subjects that might answer some of your questions.

If I was worshipping God in a way that he did not approve, I'd want someone to tell me.
No Jehovah's Witness is forced to go from door-to-door, it is completely voluntary. They give up their free-time, speaking to complete strangers about a subject that most nowadays would consider taboo (religion), their preaching involves unpaid weekend work, and before they leave their house they know that most people will reject their message, while facing the possibility of verbal abuse, sometimes physical abuse.
So here's the point. What is motivating them to continue to preach week in, week out? All those who criticise Jehovah's Witnesses may want to ask themselves: If my church asked me to preach from door-to-door, would I do it?
Also, if Jehovah's Witnesses are part of false religion, how come the true religion is so silent? Surely the true religion would be more active in preaching the good news of God's Kingdom if they had God's blessing. Surely God isn't blessing a false religion.
Jehovah's Witnesses come round my area about 3 or 4 times in a year. No other religion does. At my previous address, I had Mormons twice in 20 years.

Clearly, Madam, you've suffered immensely. Poor, poor thing!
It isn't apt to happen, Jehovah's Witnesses knocking at my door, because of the way things are, but if they did I would invite them in, offer decaffeinated tea and a scone, and hear them out. First I would let it be known that I am a lifelong atheist, that I've been in the company of all kinds of religious folk, of several religions, and that I hoped they enjoyed the tea and the scone. German JWs were targeted by the Nazis in Germany from 1933 onward, and especially after the start of WWII in 1939--persecuted, sent to concentration camps, tortured, murdered. A small thing it would be, to express my native land's religious freedom in any way I am able to do. And this atheist has not found the Watchtower, or other JW publications to be at all offensive. The JWs certainly are not rude, oppressive, and ego-diseased as right-wing American Fundies too often are, for no reason, for no reason at all.

I am sure they mean well but i wish they kept a data base of their work, so they wouldn't have to come back again and again. I am already established, but for some I would imagine their visit is a real nice thing. I guess the best thing to do is be polite and honest.

They don't blow people and come to my door using their time and affection, they are not drinkers or not will stab me, so for me even I am not religious or Jehovah's witness I do treat them well cause the world needs more people really thinking in the peace of God and not in killing people in their name.

and this is where our basic character kicks in...we can choose to be rude because we perceive them as being rude to us, or we can be gracious and kind because that's what the world needs more of...
if someone is preaching to you over the butter, you might ask them to walk with you while you shop and try to have a nice chat. when they ask you about your religion, ask them if they are married, what their wife/husband does, if they have kids, how many, how old, where do they go to school, compliment them on their shoes or clothes and ask where they shop. most people are totally disarmed by friendly chitchat and you may end up having an enjoyable conversation while you shop. then turn in at the check out and say, it's been nice meeting you, but i have to go now...

first we all should be doing that. however i dont do what they do when i knock on doors. all i do is invite them to church. and give them a card. if they go to church then cool. if not then cool. however mormons and jw the only problem is if you go to a church already then they want to go into the whole convert you thing. if someone goes to another church sure i ask them what and still invite them to ours. or even a Bible study later on. but when jw or mormons come to my door i share with them the truth. most the time they ask questions because they want to answere it themselves for you. like mormons will ask does your church have pastors, teachers, prophets etc. sure we do i say. i say it is in the Bible, they ask about temple if we have a temple i say sure we do, this is with mormons again then they ask were i say well first you are looking at one of the temples right now myself. the Bible clearly says we are the temple now. then i say however temple also was a place of prayer and worship and was open to everyone not just some people. as far as a building type place. then i say hmm that fits our church building were we have service at. old temple were they had to wash there hands, feet, and burn an offering is over. we dont have those no more. anyways point is i am nice to them. you dont have to invite them in. we talk at the door. we do invite them over later for a Bible study. most the time actually they invite us or ask us if they can come back. why because they are programmed to do that. however they never do.
and the biggest point i will make. always pray daily about it that God will guide you when they come to your door as to what to do. i have nothing against them. i know some about both those beliefs i just mentioned. mormons i am against that they use other doctrines. the people are nice people in both beliefs though. jw they just have there own Bible they made but only changed the new test and left the old test. i say this because there are many things in old test that goes with new test and you can use to show that the Bible they now use does not go with the old test or ours. i use King James Version. one thing is there Bible in john 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was a god. at the end it says a god. A god. not God but a god. and God is with a lower case g. KJV and many others at the end says and the Word was God.
well if there Bible was true you can take them to old test. and show many versus were it says there is one God and no other. and that he knows of no other gods and that there was no other gods and will never be any other gods. but they say Jesus is a God. hmmmmmm. anyways another point is i dont have to defend the truth and Gods Word. it defends itself.

Hello, Michelle:
What would I do? Well, I always invite them in. You see, I've read 10 different translations of the Bible, and their private translation just doesn't float.
However, concernng house to house evangelism, they are following Christ's instructions. And He said you should not hide your pearl (salvation), and all true Christians will do what Jesus did, teach the Gospel. Why, because God presence within compells (constrains) you to serve and obey Him.
That is why my wife and I are in the mission field--working without pay for Him. And when you truly have God in your heart, you will do likewise.
But I bet you, like Jesus, would shed your blood in a blood transfusion, to same someone. And you would not speak evil of dignitaries and refuse to salute the flag or say the pledge.
