So I am in Japan and it is usually quite humid in the summers here and the winters often bring about condensation in the apartments.

My apartment has become increasingly moldy and starting to stink. The way this place became moldy was that moisture was trapped in the tatami flooring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatami

This all started maybe about early 2006 and I'm planning to move out next month.

What health problems can living in a moldy place for so long have on your body?

Long term, you are okay.

I know that while living in a moldy apartment, I was often nauseuous, felt tired, weak, sick, and had headaches.

Once you get out of those conditions, things improve.

I know the most dangerous mold is Black Mold. The other mildew kind is more of a nuisance than anything but the black mold has severe consequences with lung issues. It also cannot be treated with household bleach like mildew. Black mold has to be eliminated professionally. To breathe it in is very dangerous. Insist that something be done immediately by your landlord. I would also go to a Doctor to be tested for any harmful things that may have happened. I used to lease apartments and when it occured in one of our apartments, a professional was the only answer. Good Luck.

Some molds can cause some serious health risks. No mold is good for you, but some are worse. If you have lung problems, this will cause the problem to get worse. If you are thinking of moving, I would do it quick. Bleach can help kill the mold if you can get to it. If it is in the walls you have to tear it out in order to get to it. You would have to tear up the floor if you can't get the bleach to the mold.

My gf had this in her basement and it led to breathing problems . Do not subject your children to this situation. In most cases in north america they can condem the house as being non-habitable until the problem is fixed.
