Losing excess weight is something that people with COPD forget because of all the other problems. Do you have a good one to share?

I myself have COPD and I eat a light breakfast of a weight watchers Blueberry muffin and a cup of coffee and orange juice. For lunch a sandwich of your preference with a few chips and a diet soda and for dinner I have 8ozs of meat or fish, veggies of your choice and glass of low fat milk. You can snack on fruit and carrot sticks or celery any time but don`t eat anything after 8:00 pm Also drink as much water as you like. The more the better. It helps clean out your system. I myself have lost 22lbs in the last 3 months. If you are taking prednisone it is twice as hard to lose weight. It makes you hungry all the time. Try to drink lots of water, it will make you fill full. Good Luck

People with COPD often suffer from low weight because they burn a lot of energy trying to breath. They also have lower intake of food because it becomes hard to eat. They will sacrifice eating to breathe.

Most dietitians recommend a high fat low carb diet. Carbs and fat will burn to become energy. However carbs will produce carbon dioxide (CO2) as a byproduct of being burned by the body. COPD patients already have too much CO2 in their bodies to begin with. Fat will produce a little but not much.

Another trick is smaller meals but more per day. To conserve energy at each meal, have smaller portions. Just have more meals per day. Energy and nutrient shakes are good too.

I hope this helps
