I'm particularly wondering about the fast tests that take 5-60 minutes to get results. Thanks.

They are not as accurate I would go to the doctor or local health department and have them do the test that takes any where from a week to 30 days for results.
And if it comes out clean, start protecting yourself better.

The oral swab QuickTest HIV tests have recently been shown to be just about as accurate as the standard ELISA/Western Blot tests done with blood draws. They are about 99% sensitive and 99% specific in terms of accuracy.

It only takes a high school degree to work in our local health department lab, so could be a mix up, but any positives on the quick test should be sent off for confirmatory tests which are highly accurate. You tend to get false positives rather than false negatives.

I worked in a Lab and have a four year degree in MedLab technologist. The tests are only as good as the person giving them but, I trust anyone that puts in four grueling years to get thier degree. It goes without question, some doctors are jerks, so are some of us. There's some bad and good with every profession.
