Yes, we can carry multiple HPV types.
They are at least 100 HPV types. They are number in the order in which they were found. 30 of these HPV are found in our genital area. Planter warts are HPV type 1.
At this time there is not an approved HPV test that tells us what specific HPV types we carry. The FDA approved HPV test screens for 13 high risk HPV types16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59 and 68.
90% of all visible genital warts are due to low risk HPV types 6 and 11. Many women have both genital warts and have tested positive for high risk HPV with the DNA from the sample taken of the cervix.
Roche has asked the FDA to approve a test Linear Array HPV Genotyping Test that will allow us to know what specific HPV types we carry.
Here are some medical articles (www.pubmed.com) that show multiple HPV types in research.

Absolutely!
I know for a fact I have at least two different kinds of HPV. I have had both cervical cancer and genital warts from my HPV. Genital warts and cervical cancer are caused by different strains or "kinds" of HPV.
It's not uncommon for people to have 2 or more kinds of HPV. Since most kinds are harmless and won't do anything or show any symptoms, people are unaware they even have HPV or more than one kind of HPV.
I asked my doctor once if there was a test to see exactly what kind or kinds of HPV I had. She said that there was, but it cost over $1000 and really isn't worth it. So, if you are willing to pay some big bucks, you can find out exactly what strains of HPV you have.
Good luck!

Yes. I'm not sure exactly how many different strands of HPV are out there, but there are about a dozen or so that have been shown to increase the risk of cervical cancer, and just like any other virus (such as the cold virus, HIV, etc), you can have more than one type at a time. It all depends on what you have been exposed to.

95% of the US adult population has several strains of HPV. Very few of them are dangerous strains howver - most common strains of HPV cause things like ordinary warts on your hands, etc. The 8 or so dangerous strains that are known to cause cervical and throat cancer, genital warts, etc. are more rare, but several percent of the US population has one or more of these as well. At last count there are over 120 strains that have been identified and DNA sequenced, but the total true number out there is probably more than double that figure.
