I was born with a murmur and the doctor told my parents it would go away on it's own and it hasn't.

I've recently had really sharp pains that would go away after 10 mintues or so. I'm only 21 by the way.

Who can I see for this? Can my regular doctor refer me to a specialist so I can get it checked out? Thanks!

Most of the murmers are self curable, give it some time.
Report to the nearest ER in case of Acute chest pain.
You can see your regular doctor and tell him to take a second opinion from a cardiologist which is mandatory as you have reached the age of 21, or should I say as early as possible.
Might be a panic attack and see a gynaecologist, because you have a full life ahead.
Best of luck.

heart murmurs do usually go away, my daughter had one too, and it went away, chest pain can be more than just heart conditions, yes, if your MD thinks so you should see a cardiologist, but an EKG can be done in any doctor's office, that would show for sure. indigestion/heart burn can sometimes cause what feels like chest pain, and by far a panic attack or anxiety will cause chest pain. I had gripping chest pain years ago, got dizzy, and was walking sideways, didn't know what was happening, but I went in the house rested and it went away, my neighbor had saw me and came over, she said I bet you had a panic attack, she went over all the symptoms and I had them all! So I went to my MD and I was Dx with it, so now when the chest pains come, I take a xanax, breathe deep and think happy thoughts, and lay down, they pass in about ten minutes, sometimes longer. But lots of people go to the ER thinking it is a heart problem and it turns out to be anxiety. But either way, and EKG is in order and a referral to a cardiologist with a past Hx is a good idea. Good Luck! Tash

Yes, your Doc can refer you to a Cardiologist. Has your Doc done any testing of your heart murmur?? EKG, which shows the electrical activity of your heart?? I ask because it would help if the cardiologist can compare any tests to see if there are any changes. I hope that this helps and Good Luck..

For heart problems, consult a cardiologist. You can ask your regular doctor to refer you to a good cardiologist. Since I have no regular doctor to ask, I go to the hospital and inquire from the information desk about any available cardiologist.

See your doctor as soon as you can, he or she can get you a referral to see a cardiologist. If you're feeling dizzy or light headed with those pains, get to a hospital. This is serious.
