Today I searched out vegetarian jello and found some at an organic store near me. I picked up several different flavors, and am interested in making jello shots with them because being a vegetarian I've never had them before (Yes I am of legal drinking age).
My question is.. in all jello shot recipes I've come across, even vegetarian ones say you add the vodka when you add in the cold water to mix the 'jello'. The vegetarian jello I got though doesn't call for cold water, just boiling water. What do I do? When would I add the vodka?

i guess i should clarify.. this 'jello' is made from seaweed and other plant materials. no animal products, it is 100% vegetarian. but im not sure at what stage of the process i should add the alcohol.

the boiling water is needed to Melt the Gelatin.
well, in regular jello it is, anyway..

So , if it calls for 2 cups of boiling water,
use i cup of boiling water. and stir stir stir.. until everything gets completely dissolved .

Then instead of adding the other cup of Water, add your cup of Vodka. (by the time you're done really stirring it up, it will have cooled off enough that the Alcohol will not evaporate on you. if you're worried , you can always just keep stirring a little longer , tho. You can't stir jello too much ,in the BoilingWater stage. it likes it.)

Or if you like Lime "jello", you could add tequilla

Pineapple Jello w/ coconut Rum?

the possibilities are endless.

just thinking about it makes me happy.

Yum! ; )

depends on the jello actually. Some packets require you to boil it first to make it jello. Others just cold water. if your jello said boiling water then it's boiling water because it means that it cannot be "jello" with cold water. i had an experience with this actually. What i did was i added the jello mix to the boiling water (more than half of what is required ex if 4 cups water required, i only put 3cups) and mixed it. let it cool a bit but not to the point that it's already jello. You can't add the vodka right away coz it will make the alcohol disappear. so when it's already warm.. i add the vodka.

Jello Shots

Try dissolving the jello in half the amount of boiling water called for by the recipe, then replacing the rest of the water with the vodka. That's what I would do.

If it doesn't dissolve, you may be out of luck. Heating the vodka will cause the alcohol to evaporate.

Thanks for the idea! I'm going to try it myself.

I would add it when you add the water (cold or hot) just as the directions call for. The water is what forms the jello.

It really doesnt matter what the temp of the water is. You just need water so it will gel enough to become a Jello Shot.......

Maybe you could try putting it in when it starts to cool off.
