OH YEAH! AND THEN THOSE BRILLIANT SCIENTISTS WILL SUDDENLY DISCOVER THAT WATER HAS FEELINGS AND PAIN TOO!! This is a ridiculous question. You honestly need to stay out of the Vegetarian and Vegan section. Tell that to all your meat-eating friends too! If I were talking to you face to face right now, I would be SCREAMING to your face!! Questions like these make me wonder why people like you are here on this earth.

It is very possible that plants have sensitivities that we do not yet understand. Because plants do not have nervous systems and cannot run away from predators, it has generally been assumed that they do not experience pain and suffering. Recent scientific evidence suggests that this assumption may be incorrect. However, we do know that birds and other nonhuman vertebrates have well-developed nervous systems and pain receptors the same as humans. Like us, they show pleasure and pain and they present comparable evidence of fear and well-being. Animals cry out in pain, they nurse wounded body parts, and they seek to avoid those who have hurt them in the past.
In order to live, one has to eat. However, when we eat animal products, we consume many more plants indirectly than if we ate those plants directly, because the animals we eat are fed huge quantities of grasses, grains, and seeds to be converted into meat, milk, and eggs. As a vegan (one who eats no animal products) you cause fewer beings to suffer and die for you.

1. It's possible to eat plant products w/o killing the plant. Fruits, nuts & some vegetables for example.
2. *If* plants felt pain & I were a flesh-eater, I would not only be responsible for the suffering plants that I personally ate, but also for the suffering plants that the cows, pigs etc. ate before they ended up on my plate. A cow needs to eat about 10 pounds of food to produce 1 pound of meat, btw. More than that if the animal were allowed to run around much & act like a cow before slaughter.

What exactly is the point of this very NON thought provoking question? Just looking for trouble? Lonely?
Science already proved that plants have no brain or nervous system.

So you're trying to point out that we are..hypocrites, with the argument that what..you already are for a fact? if that is you're argument??
oh I see...lets go with the obvious choice of causing animals pain that we know is hurting them..instead of eating the plants and their fruits..you know, the only food that allows this world to exist..the only food that can convert solar energy into edible nutrition for us...the only food that creates vitamins for us, the only food that gives us a source of dietary minerals..the only food that CREATES OUR OXYGEN. The choice is pretty clear - if you're not naive. Whatever though, I'm sure those animals appreciate knowing you don't care about them and have no concern over any pain they receive..since...plants 'might' feel pain, so that what..by default 'nullifies' the pain animals feel??? stupid !@#$%.

We would still be saving more plants than meat eaters because it takes as many plants as a human can survive on for the same amount of time to support an animal before slaughter.

Don't you have better things to do with your time? I mean come on "Oxyetarians"? Just because you don't agree with the choices of others doesn't mean that you'll ever come to understand them. For the record, there are many health benefits to being a vegetarian. Not to mention the benefits to the environment. We don't have to eat meat! It's a habit that has been passed down to us through generations! Open your mind!

Did you stop eating Beef when we had the Mad Cow disease? There are so many reasons people are vegetarians and different types. Hope to God I get to continue to live on air all the while eating my veggies!

I have been a vegetarian (no meat or seafood) for close to 15 years and I've encountered many people like you who ask these kind of questions. I learned that a good many of people like you will put down vegetarians and seem to always want to "catch us in the act" instead of respecting our right to make a choice not to eat meat. There may always be things that no one has control over. For example, some people ask me...well, you eat in restaurants...what if the cook touched meat and then touched your salad." Just ridiculous. It just leads me to believe that people that ask these types of questions just wish they could be vegetarians... but don't have the discipline.

Just because you talk to plants don't mean that they're living with a heart beat like us. Use your noodle.
