No, a herpes test is not performed for a normal physical or a standard STD test. You have to ask to be specifically tested for it. Herpes is detected by checking if you have the antibodies against the virus. Evidence that you body has foughten off the virus at one point or another determines whether or not you have contracted it.

When a doctor observes the genitalia, s/he is usually able to diagnose herpes. When s/he isn't sure, a blood test will be done. You must ask to be tested for herpes. When your blood is sent to the lab, it is screened for the herpes antibodies, blood cells that our immune systems produce to try to destroy foreign particles that enter the body. If you have a high amount of antibodies, then you have herpes. I hope this helps.

it's usually just a clinical diagnosis... aka they just recognize it. nothing on routine bloodwork can indicate that you have specifically the herpes virus; they can do a culture, which is called a tzank smear to check for the herpes virus. however, they typically just recognize it visually.

You have to understand these doctors went to college usually over 4 years. It is their experience in dealing with sick patients. Another words doctors are heavily educated.
They will also run a particular test to determine what the
problem is as well.

they can't tell by a blood test if you have it, only if you've been exposed to it. the only way to tell if you have it is if you have an outbreak or what you think may be an outbreak (a sore or blistered area on your lip or genitals) and they swab the area and test the material from the swab.

You can ask your doctor to be checked for herpes.
Its a simple blood test.
My best friend had one and it showed up that she had it.
She always itched and that was it. No other signs. Her doctor told her sometimes people don't even have any signs.

No. They scan for the Herpes virus itself. HSV-2 (sexual) or HSV-1(cold sores)
