This article just shows the immaturity of some people. Whether you are green or not doesn't change how people should act. I understand that this vandalism is vast the minority of those who claim they are "green". But this reinforces the (although I assume innacurate) impression that those who are "green" are smug and believe they are better becasue they drive hybrids, or have a smaller cabron footprint.
I would rather drive a Hummer than a hybrid, not because I like it better, but because of the impression people get if I were to drive a hybrid.
I am not pro-pollution, but I would consider myself anti-green. I find the spokespeople for the entire green movement, the celebrities and just those who are vocal about it, very hypocritical and come off smug. I am not a bad person because I didn't buy a hybrid, or because I don't recycle all the time. You are not better than me becasue I use oil to heat my home and you use solar.

In the 80's there were big campaigns against testing makeup and drugs on animals. We stood outside the train station in Leeds giving out leaflets. We were peaceful but those who did not share our view were not. We received a lot of verbal abuse and pushing. I thought I was right to protest as I did. To protect those animals.
In the 90's lots of us new mum's went out for an evening to a restaurant. While the daddy's stayed at home. Animal activists bombed the shop next door, we got away by the skin of our teeth. We were innocent bystanders. All our children would have been left without a mother, I think there was about 31 children in total. I thought they were wrong to protest as they did. To protect the animals.
If you see somebody you love dying from a disease, how can you not want every drug available to help them to stop prolonged suffering? How can we put people above animals?
I thought they were wrong to protest about animal testing as they did. To protect humans who were dying.
Your views may change depending on your experiences at that time but there is never an excuse for violence on any side. I agree whatever your views it should not change how you act.
We all have different views. The world has moved a long way since the tests that were done on animals in 1980's thanks in part to general public opinion. I will accept your views, if you will accept mine. Then we can work together on the violence. What more can we ask of each other?

I HATE holier-than-thou attitudes. I sometimes wonder how many of those Hollywood people do something because it's the trend of the second and it's good PR. I don't like PETA becauase they seem to have a holier-than-thou attitude and push their beliefs on to other people. I did not become a Christain because I was taught hellfire-and-damnation. They lived by just sharing and living in a manner that showed thanfulness of what God has done for them.) I suppose it helped that I was raised in a Christain home with a father who is a Lutheran pastor. Lead by example. Sorry. I'm digressing.
My in-laws only recycle soda cans for the money. (They live in Ohio, so it's "only" X amount per pound, not per can as in some states.) They use foam and paper plates on a daily basis because it's "easier" than washing dishes. They think nothing of just getting in the card and driving (then complain about how much money they're spending on gas) or using disposable stuff like fast food runs.
My sister-in-law has become vegetarian to save the animals. Yet, ironically, she is pro-choice. I also became veg out of concern for the animials and the planet, but am also pro-life. I say nothing, though I want to.
Yet, I've taught my husband quite a few things and he me. We now live as green as what we can within our power. Although we have two sedans and a pickup, we drive only one and when necessary. Also, I don't want a hybrid, as they seem to be more hype than good.
I was raised to recycle and have since taught my parents a few things as well.
Yes, I'm green, but I don't push it. Last weekend when my in-laws were here, I told them about the different refuse reciprocals-- The small trash can for non-deposit cans that go to my FIL, the trash can and the recycle bin. I did subtly say that it gets taken out more than the trash can. We we had a meal at our house, I used the "real" plates because that's what we had. My MIL said something about paper, but I told her we didn't even have any. I live by example.
I saw some of the Live Earth concert and wondered how earth friendly it really turned out to be. (I heard some comments on the earth unfriendlyness on an NPR show that day.) I turned the show off when Bonnie Raitt started singing the praises of Al Gore. Ugh.
Sorry, I'm babbling.

Because people aren't aware of what they are doin to the earth and how they can help. If we educated the public then more people would go green. Even though some people may use solar panels and you use oil for heating may not make the other person better than you, it just means that they care more for the envirnment. I agree with you on the celbrities though.. Many of them are like "lets stop global warming wooohoo" but do not act on it; they just drive their hummers and escilades.

Not sure what your question was, but those responsible should be executed to set an example. The hypocrisy is typical. Those responsible most likely have their computer, their ipod, their CD player, their game boy their home with a TV, and x box, or wii, but they 'feel" that they are better. Way to education system. Hang em, hang en high for all to see. bet then they want do it again.

I'm green, I do what I can do to help the environment and people, like today I just got a 60w light bulb from yahoo, it comes in this tiny brown package in the mail, a month later after earning it, so like everyone that claims to be green isn't let global warming get a lil more worse, and more people will start helping, once they realize how serious of an issue it is, then they'll start doing what is needed, until then, whose gonna tell them how big of an issue global warning is?

I'm with you there. I had a girl give me a big freaking lecture because I have a "SUV" which is a tiny Jeep Compass for crying out loud! And I don't even drive that much, just when I go out of town. Berkeley is not very car-friendly.

Not really. They might wonder how you can be so stupid, f.o.s. & nuts.
Do you blame a bar because someone starts a fire with a match from a matchbook with their name on it? Sure sounds like it.
"The impression people get if I were to drive a hybrid" ... how insecure in your manhood are you? Do you have a very small ... shoe size?
