Okay, so I decided to become a vegeterian on Tuesday. I'm am now, almost four days without any meat. NOBODY in my family supports me, they all think I'm crazy and they think it's a phase I'll grow out of, I know different, I know I will never eat meat again. I decided to be a lato-veg. Now, what can I do with my family. I also need to know EASY vegeterian recipes. I'm a teenager, and my mom won't offer to cook a veggie meal, or an alternate for me, so I'll have to do it myself. I need easy fixings. I want your recipes! I need help, I don't want to starve to death. And also, can you give me a recipe you think my family will like, I'm going to offer to cook them a veggie meal and see if they like it. Thanks in advance!

I started being vegetarian about 4 years ago just because I couldn't bear the thought that and animal had had to DIE just so I could eat. Then i moved to Spain and that put me even more off it since they treat the animals even worse than in England (yes, it is actually possible!). Then I found some websites and they are even putting me off dairy. I never realsied the cruelty that goes on behind the cheary packaging. It is so sick. The other reason is that by farming animals it is ruining the environment (look on the following websites for more info). Also causing hunger in third world countries. Then there is the fact that it is the most unhealthy way to eat, and just simply not necessary. It wil make you live longer being vege since you have less chance of heart disease and cancer. Vege food also tastes 100% better. So i really can't see the point in eating meat, it's just a waste of life (in the animals and people) and ruining everything with absolutely NO benefits. Do you accept murder of people? Animals can feel the same pain.

Check out Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard's "How it All Vegan!" It has fairly easy vegan recipes that you can pull together for a meal. There are also several vegan recipe books geared toward students and teens.

You might also want to check out Carol J. Adams "Living Among Meat Eaters." It will help you deal with people who are unsupportive and she has an open letter to parents of teen vegetarians.

There's also a web site called The Vegetarian Loaf Studio where you plug in the stuff you have, and it gives you a recipe for a vegan loaf.

Good luck!

My absolute favorite is fried rice,
boil a cup of brown rice in a 2 cups( but if it looks dry and still uncooked do add a little more water) of water( 45 minute or less)
get a bag of mixed veggies that should include peas carrots and corn
you need onion powder, sea salt, pepper and butter( margarine is better for you) and maybe soy sauce if you like
whisk 3 eggs and put aside (or you can use tofu which you put in first make sure it's the extra firm kind)
get a skillet put in margarine
your heat should be on medium
add the veggies
cook until unfrozen
pour in the eggs
when the rice is done(which it should be by the time you get to this part)
mix add your spices and your done
and im sure their are more vegetarian recipes you could find on the web
like yahoo, and cooks.com or just google it
g'luck

-hummus sandwich
(look into getting pita bread, toasting it, and dipping it in the hummus--yum! Plus, Hummus=protein)
And you can add lettuce, tomato, cheese to ur sandwich
-pb&j
-carrots in peanut butter (actually, anything w/peanut butter)
-anything with baked beans!!
-tortellini salad (cook some cheese tortellini, then mix with cherry tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and cucumber. Stir in Caesar salad dressing to taste. Refrigerate so that it's cool when you eat it. It's very yummy. I just had it for dinner actually)
-popcorn
-mac & cheese
-veggie dogs (sooo easy to boil, i like the Smart Deli brand. They boil in like, 4 minutes or something), plus Boca burgers, other faux deli meats for sandwiches,
-experiment with tofu and a veggie stir-fry
- baked ravioli (my mom made this as a type of lasagna replacement when she didnt have the right noodles. You can get refrigerated pre-cooked cheese ravioli from the grocery store, then put it in a dish and mix with tomato sauce and drained spinach, then sprinkle with cheese, and cover with foil. baking temp: 375 F for 30-40 min.) That would be a good one for your family. It was REALLY good.

Don't forget to snack on fruit, veggies ("ants on a log" if you like celery.) Eating can feel kinda awkward at first, since you just don't really know what you're doing, but it definitely gets easier. Try a lot of new things that you wouldnt have considered eating before.
(Also, try other meditteranean, mexican, indian, etc. foods)

Good luck!!

If you don't want to cook, just eat whatever sides your parents prepare. There are many many simple vegetarian recipes out there just search for them online.

I'm a teenager/vegetarian too. I usually just cook whatever we hve around.

And good job! Prove it to everyone that you CAN do it! They'll learn...they'll ALL learn. Ha ha ha. That kind of sounded evil...
