she is 13 and has diabetes we are giving her about 28 units of insulin twice a day and still running high any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, you can check with your vet to see if there's any special dogfood that can help her diet. Also, she may need an adjustment in insulin dosage, but let the vet determine that.

She may need a higher dose. Our chocolate lab/Weimeraner mix is also on 28 units, but you might try one other thing before you up her dosage. Our vet sells special dog food that is for weight control, and it has a chemical in it that helps to lower her blood sugar. I noticed that one time we ran out, and substituted another one for a few days, and immediately her blood sugar shot up.

Ask your vet about Hill's Prescription diabetic food (wet & dry). We used it and insulin to keep a terrier mix live well to age 16.

Also, encourage her to be as active as possible.
