Sweet baby: Make it modern: Invite the guys!
Baby showers don't have to be stale and dated.
How to decorate: Just start with a color
Move away from the traditional pink and blue and start by asking the mom-to-be her favorite color to set the theme.
Try using a touch of modern design and bold color: Orange-and-teal is a fun change of a pace.
Decorate the table with concentric circles on a construction-paper tablecloth and try creating graphic mobiles (construction-paper circles hanging from an embroidery ring) that can serve as a gift.
What to serve? Rely on takeout — no cooking, no prep!
Try store-bought food items and place them on fun trays that match the theme. You can do pizza bites or sub sandwiches — something easy to buy and prep in little time.
Here's a simple menu:
Munchies:
Dumplings: Order chicken, watercress, shrimp and pork dumplings from a Chinese delivery menu, along with pork buns, pork shumai and chicken and vegetable potstickers (aim for about six pieces per guest). Or buy frozen dumplings. (We like the Ling Ling brand, available at Whole Foods.)
Spicy wasabi peas
Edamame sprinkled with sesame salt
Candy-coated sesame seeds
Dried sweet potatoes
Bowl of clementines, kumquats and tangerines play off the color scheme.
Dessert:
It doesn't have to be cake. Instead serve Japanese mochi and dry Meyer-lemon sodas.
Gift ideas: Go for modern favorites and personal touches
It's not about who can spend the most money. It's about useful and unique ideas that will make the mom-to-be (and baby!) happy. Here are a couple of fun options:
Custom CDs of nursing and bedtime tunes (not just for the baby, music you would want to listen to, too)
Make a scrapbook to show the baby who's who in her new world.
Felt toy basket, full of things that other “Blueprint” mothers have grown to know and love. Everyone contributes a specific amount of money (“Blueprint” staffers put in $20-30 each for our shower) and they present mom with the group gift.
Alphabet poster: My favorite! This is the only thing I'll give at showers from now on!
Sheep teething toy (very cute and inexpensive — also makes a great small baby gift for a not-as-close friend).
Books: Bruno Munari's “ABC and The Soles of Your Feet”

Since your shower is around what a lot of people consider their supper time, I would serve some substantial food along with some snack foods as well.
By substantial, I mean things like sandwishes and not just chips and dip.
Here are some of my suggestions:
Some kind of finger sandwiches, and use a cookie cutter shaped like a star to cut them out so it follows your theme.
Fruit and vegetable trays are always a good choice too.
For the fruit, go with your basics like apples, melons, strawberries, but you could also buy star fruit and use it too. For the fruit dip try using this recipe:
Fruit Dip
1 package of cream cheese softened
1 jar marshmallow creme
Combing both until smooth and put back into marshmallow creme jar for easy storage. This dip is best served at room temperature.
For veggies, I would suggest cucumbers, carrots, squash, cherry tomatoes, and broccili with a dip like ranch dressing.
I've also served kabobs at a shower in the evening. Just make small ones with a couple of pieces of meat and some veggies on them and grill ahead of time. You can cover a serving tray in lettuce and lay the kabobs out for display purposes. This is something a little more substantal than sandwiches. A great side item to go with the kabobs is pasta salad.
Some other baisc ideas-chips and dips, mixed nuts, small candies like m&m's, a cake that goes alon with your theme. An idea I had was to make it look like one of those boards they snap shut in front of the camera before they start filming the scene and under title, put the new baby's name or the parent's names.
For decorations, I would suggest old movie posters-you can often buy them for very little at places like Blockbuster.
For specific recipes (I have tons but don't now your preferences in food) try going to the Food Network's website. There is a section devoted to party foods, and if you have a favorite chef then you can visit their pages for more idead as well.

Due to the time, I would serve substantial food because after people leave your party, it will be too late to eat much of anything else and go to bed.
If its a 'Hollywood' baby shower, I would go with silver/white/pink for a girl and
silver/white/blue for a boy.
Make your overall theme 'stars' - they are easy to cut out of paper, easy to find on things and everyone associates hollywood with stars!
I would probably serve a meat and cheese deli tray, slices of diff. breads/croisants/bagels, etc, fruit tray, veggie tray with dips, and of course a cake.
You could do the following -
put all your door/game prizes in bags with stars on them,
cut your breads witha start cookie cutter,
have a game with all those ridiculous names that stars use to name thier babies!
You could have a sort of cake walk/musical chairs type of game where you put down about 10 big paper stars in a circle, then play music as people walk down "Hollywood boulevard" when the music stops, each person has to be standing on a star. the one that is not on a star, is out - them remove a star and start again. THis would be fun, easy and totally tie your hoolywood/start theme together. For a prize, give a set of movie tickets !
I think that this is a cool idea and have fun - that is what its all about!

Beef Tenderloin Medalions in star puff pastery
Vine riped fruits and veggies with dips
Hollywood Party
contributed by Alissa
DECORATE --
Use famous people and movies. Focus on Hollywood moms and movies focused on babies. For example:
MOMS --
Nicole Kidman, Jackie Onasis, Pamela Anderson, Jodie Foster
MOVIES --
Raising Arizona, Three Men and A Baby, Baby Boom, Look Who's Talking
GAME --
A game to set off the theme is to write out a famous mom's name on a piece of paper for each guest and put it on the back of the guest at the beginning of the party and the first one to guess right wins. Of course they will have to ask eachother descriptive questions throughout the party to win.
Decorations
Candy Pacifers rings (Hollywood bling)
Pixie Sticks (Fairy Dust)

Since your party is not during a meal time, no one is expecting hearty food. I'd stick w/ things like open-face tomato or cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, fruit tray, 3-4 cheese selections w/ nice crackeers, and maybe a punch.
Decorate w/ cheap sunglasses.

I went to one this past weekend and made chicken salad sandwiches. I just chopped up boiled chicken and added mayo, celery, and pecans. Then I put it on small crossaint rolls. You could have a red carpet in the entrance of the house for a decoration.

Chicken/egg/veggie salad on little sandwiches...easy to prepare and everybody loves them! Veggie/fruit platter, etc. are always standard fare at any showers I go to. And I love those little baby quiches! You can do the entire thing by shopping at Costco or Sam's!

For drinks, use sparkling apple cider. Also, you can make sandwiches and cut them in the shape of a star with a cookie cutter.
