The ordering of the colpscopy indicates you tested positive for high risk HPV types. The HPV test screens for 13 high risk HPV types. It is uncommon for the doctor to order low risk HPV type screening.
Visible Genital HPV types are generally low risk HPV types 6 and 11.
We can acquire both low risk and high risk HPV types.
Low risk HPV types are not seen in cancer. Your colpscopy will allow your doctor to see the virus better and your biopsy will tell you how much tissue is involved.
The HPV test does not tell us what HPV types we have and no screening is done for low risk HPV types or of your vulva. If you do not have low risk HPV types you will not get visible genital warts of the vulva. We can carry more than one HPV type and we can acquire other HPV types with a new sex partner.
The diagnosis of HPV is very emotional. Positive for high risk HPV types of the vaginal cuff and the vulva.
I wish you well.

There are a lot of different kinds of HPV- one of the results you are waiting for is probably what type you have.
Some cause warts, but others simply hang out in your body and show no symptoms. Some also make it much more likely that you will develop cervical cancer. That's a big part of what the colposcopies are about- looking for spots that might turn into cancer and getting rid of them before it develops.
I know it's scary, but the important thing to remember is that you've caught it early and you are getting the treatment you need. This does not have to drastically change your life. you will have to make certain adjustments- being vigilant about having safer sex and informing all your partners that you have HPV, for example- but this is not by any means the end of the world.
Call your doctor and see if they can recommend a local STI support group. It may help you to feel less depressed if you can meet other people who are dealing with the same concerns.
best wishes

There are MANY different types of HPV, some cause cancer, some cause warts, and some just kinda chill out and don't do a whole heck of a lot.
You may not get warts, you may not get anything! lol
I'll get you some information on the different types of HPV.
(BTW, GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!!)
"Most people who become infected with HPV will not have any symptoms and will clear the infection on their own."
http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm
Hope your body serves it an eviction notice soon!
Sheena
By the way, do NOT think that just a condom can protect you. No matter how safe you are, you can still get it.
By NO means does this mean you were irresponsible.
Please try to keep from being an @$$ when answering questions from a scared young woman.
If you don't have anything nice to say, you can go get an abnormal PAP test, and see how s#itty you feel.
(sorry hon, it's just that that one person's comment really ticked me off.)

No. There are over 120 different kinds of HPV - most of them are pretty harmless.
About a dozen or so of those kinds are responsible for genital warts. HPV kinds 16 and 18 together make up about 70% of genital wart cases. So, unless you have one of those kinds of HPV that can cause genital warts you will not develop them.
It is the same with cervical cancer. There are certain kinds of HPV that can cause cervical cancer. If a person doesn't have one of those kinds then they won't get pre-cancerous cells on their cervix or cervical cancer.
Good luck!

I am sorry. I'm sure your GYN doctor can answer all your questions. I do believe a strain of the HPV virus (11 or 6) is causing your genital warts, though sometimes you can have no symptoms at all. I would highly avoid any sexual (genital) contact until you are cleared to by your doctor. I would treat this like a cold sore and just stay away until its gone.

i just found out as well and my biopsy came back positive for cervical cancer due to HPV and then i got warts after, they say the virus can be dormant for a long time, but no the same HPV that causes cancer is not the same that causes the warts but most likely if youve got one type of HPV then youve probably got more, i know this sucks and is realyl depressing, cause no one back in school said by the way even if you cant see anything you can still get it, everyone has it almost now and that really fing sucks, if you want to talk or want more info, please email me

They aren't several established answers out there, and also those who are typically applied don't give permanent results. For instance, dermatologists frequently recommend surgical techniques to remove moles and warts but with this specific guide, Moles, Warts and Skin Tags Removal from here you will see out that's still another way https://tr.im/5XTd5
Once you may use Moles, Warts and Skin Tags Removal system you'll feel so much better about yourself. You will have a way to get out again, without any distress at all since this system performs on every kind of mole, skin draw, and wart. It is actually secure to use for genital warts.
The most effective part of Moles, Warts and Skin Tags Removal program is that you will have no scars and other blemish whenever your label is gone.

i know how u feel darl. I have tested positive too and do not have genital warts. Firstly, if u have a partner, u must tell him as it is only fair. However, keep in mind (my mom is a doctor and believes in old wives medicine ) that everyone has that virus in their bodies but for some it lays dormant until certain circumstances activate it, just like a cold sore. Although this virus gets cleared up by the immune system by itself in 2 years you will still have it for the rest of your life but do not fear. Stress, not sleeping well, many sexual partners and low immunity will make it worse. If you are smoking, stop it, eat well and exercise and most important of all DO NOT STRESS as this is the leading cause of many diseases. I know doctors are telling us that this can lead to cervical cancer but id doesnt have to be the case. Try to improve your immunity as much as possible and you will prevent not only this getting worse but other possible health issues.
Trust me I have done my share of being depressed but it just gave me more strength to improve my quality of life.
best of luck

I know people who have HPV and have yet to have a full blown breakout. I think that it depends on how bad you have to virus or how active it is. I have a family member though who got them quite often with the disease - I think it all depends on your health and immune system as well as the type or severety of HPV. I think that it is on an individual basis.
