In NYC there is so much to do. But a 40th birthday is a classy and fun one, not a party wild go nuts type of deal. I can suggest a couple of places to go if you are looking for a dinner and show , a couple of clubs and even a bar or two. NYC is hard to do for big groups because the majority of the time it's very crowded.
City Crab is a great steak and seafood place with a great atmosphere the price of the food ranges and your bill can quickly add up if you like the delicacies.
O Flanagan's is a great bar with live karaoke. It has a friendly environment and a really nice feel to it.
The Mean Fiddler usually has live music and affordable cocktails. We enjoy going there to relax and listen to some nice music and unwind.
And if you guys are into comedy and music you can go to The Parkside Lounge and/or MoPitkins.
Good luck deciding the city can be so much fun.

Have a summer luncheon in or near Central Park. Serve sparkling lemonade, finger sandwiches, a medley of salads (like chicken salad, potato salad, and a spring salad), and have a variety of little pastries and homeade desserts. Decorate with oriental lanterns in soft, summer colors; a favor for each guest (maybe bake some sugar cookies and decorate each with the guest's name then tie in little bags with colorful ribbon); and have fun music (try Corrinne Bailey Rae; Feist). Have fun!

Make it so that nothing is planned but just going out and enjoying turning 40. And because you'll be in New York, that's it. the city offers everything, choose wisely.
