I went to the doctor on Monday regarding a single lesion on my penis which was looked a lot like a pimple. My doctor asked if it hurt if it got squeezed and i said yes and he said you have herpes with no further testing. He then prescribed me a $250.00 7 day supply of Famvir which even states on the website "Has not been proven effective for initial outbreaks". Does this sound like I should get a second opinion or can herpes really be diagnosed by merely looking at it that easily? I do also have a medical history with Staph boils and such if it at all could be related. I really don't know what to think about this.

It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. If you feel you should then see another doctor.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes 6+ years ago by only a physical examination. I was given Famvir, acyclovir, and acyclovir ointment and was told to use all of them at the same time. My outbreak went away completely about 2 weeks later.

I took a blood test about a year ago just out of curiosity which came back positive for herpes.

Good luck and take care!

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a spupid one-night stand. I know a lot of girls will say this but I swear I never did that sort of thing. I jud made mistake that one time and, suddenly, it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her you-know-what? But after a friend share this video https://tr.im/NxPH6 everything has changed. Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I`m so blessed to write that just last week, in fornt of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the change to be happy, and to experience true love. Now I want to help you share this the world.

I would take it. I know it seems silly but is your health not worth 250 dollars? Is that really a chance you don't wish to take? Sure you can get a second opinion but if so do it VERY quickly. A Dr. who is experienced can very easily diagnose an STD by just seeing it. If you trust him and he has never steered you wrong before than He pry opted for not giving you a blood test that would cost you money, and or your insurance company because:

A. it looked like Herpes
B. your history indicated a likelihood of it.
C: it seemed very likely and a waste of money and resources to test for something that seemed a certainty!

So I would go fill that prescription and take it.... But that is just my opinion.

You can go and get blood taken to find out if you have herpes. I would definetly do this. Just remember if you are positive it is very important to disclose this information to any future sex partners because there is no cure and you can pass it on to other people. If a women gets herpes from you it can complicate her life to no end ecpecially during pregnancy ect.

check out Typical symptoms of herpes

The virus starts to multiply when it gets into the skin cells. The skin becomes red and sensitive, and soon afterward, one or more blisters or bumps appear. The blisters first open, and then heal as new skin tissue forms. During a first outbreak, the area is usually painful and may itch, burn or tingle. Flu-like symptoms are also common. These include swollen glands, headache, muscle ache or fever. Herpes may also infect the urethra, and urinating may cause a burning sensation.
