Interesting question. I've always tried to accommodate vegetarians and cook something separate when having a party etc.
However in view of some of the answers above, I think next time it's steak tartare for everyone and f*** 'em if they don't like it - they can grab a carrot on the way home.

Well, if it's a vegetarian party, what do you expect? Lots of vegetables! LOL!

If the host prepares a meat dish for you, won't that defeat the purpose of a vegetarian party? As long as your hosts are one of those that can really cook veggies meals, and not one of those fake ones (you know, tofu or flour made to look like meat/veg), why not just go for it? Yum! Yum! Eating just veggies for ONE meal is not end of the world. If all else fails, eat a salad. LOL!

Have a good time! And grab a burger after the party if you must.

Meat doesn't get a "bad" name. You are only perceiving it that way. It is your own guilt. If you want to eat meat, then eat it and stop analysing it.
It is doubtful that a vegetarian would cook meat for a meat eater because the dishes served at a dinner party by a vegetarian would be healthy and nutritionally sound. Why would they need to cook up a meat dish?
It is much easier to create a vegetarian dish than to come up with a meat one just because someone chooses to eat meat.

Possibly but most likely no.It's a vegetarian dinner party so having a meat dish would kind of defeat the purpose!

I'm a vegan and would do vegan food for guests at my house.Omnivores can eat vegetarian and vegan meals. Most healthy omnivores do eat lots of veggies too so one meat free meal wouldn't be hard for you to survive.

Probably not, as they may be vegetarians for reasons other than health - ethical reasons, anti-animal killing etc.

If you know the hosts very well, you could discuss this with them sensitively, otherwise just go along and eat the tasty dishes that they prepare. Maybe eat some meat beforehand, and don't eat so much whilst there - if you really really must have some meat intake.

Vegetarian food can be delicious - I assume that you eat vegetable based food sometimes?

Break some of your rules, it's good sometimes!

Good luck! Rob

No, I don't think so if they were vegetarian for animal rights. It would seem to go against their principles if they did. I wouldn't worry though, you'd be surprised at how many veggie dishes can fill you up and cause you to not realize there's not any meat in any.

Edit:
Ha...steam cabbage does smell. Ick..

I think that's simply ridiculous if one expects that. I am not a vegetarian, however I am not anti vegetable. I think as long as the hosts don't fill the dishes with soy, tofu or boca yuck then you this should be substansive enough. Besides if a vegetarian goes to a dinner party they just forgo the meat.

No, otherwise the hosts would be being hypocritical saying dont kill animals for food then cooking one yourself, on the other hand if you went to a party with meat and they prepared a special veggie dish for you wouldn't it be good to return the favour?

WHY would you even ask for 1?
1) If you eat properly you already eat Veggies.
2) No matter what you think a single meal of nothing but "Veggies" will not hurt you.
3) You might find yourself pleasantly surprised, be brave, be open to a new experience.

It's a vegetarian dinner party, I don't think the host would do a special dish unless you were against eating any type of vegetable, like a vegetarian is against eating meat.
