This is called a PVC, (premature ventricular contraction) and they are very common. They can effect people of all ages. They can be caused by something as simple as caffine or complex as an electrolyte embalance. (such as low potassium) This should be checked out by her physician or a cardiologist. The shortness of breath is very common and she may experience chest pain as well. These PVC's may be felt more when she is at rest, for example when she lays down at night. There are meds to treat them if they really become bothersome, but typically once people know that they are not anything to really worry about, they are fine. Good luck and I hope this helps.

It's time to schedule mom for a physical. Be sure to write down your issues / questions before you go. You might mention that your asking for a physical because of a weird heart beat when you call.

It could be any number of things. It's unusual to feel it when you are exercising. If she gets dizzy and/or feels something like a vibration give it high priority.

A link to the American Heart Association is provided for info.

This is called an arrythmia, if it is just one abnormal beat then it's usually okay the doc's don't worry about those, it's when there are more than 2 abnormal beats then it's a problem.... she should still go to the doctor though... good luck!!

I think that her GP would have some ideas.
Can you arrange it so that she gets a consult? Hearts are kind of dodgy to second guess - there's no spare if one packs up.
