What do you look for in a bar?

What would you like to see more or less of in a bar?
Music? Food? Cool layout? Dancing? Smoking? Creative drinks? More than one bar? Pub? Specific age groups?

People my own age, in a clean and comfy environment.

I like my friendly neighborhood sports bar. A lot of places around me are non-smoking, which is nice so you don't go home smelling like a bar. On the other hand, it's a social thing too.

I also like places where you can actually sit and have a conversation with the person/people you're with. I hate going to get a cocktail and not being able to hear the person screaming next to you b/c the music is so loud!

For music I'd like old rock (like 70's-80's) but not too loud. For food I'd like dressed up normal bar food. Not like Totinos pizza and cheesballs. The layout has to be enough to feel homey, yet not crowded. Dancing is optional for me, I'd rather have pool and darts. No smoking, I'm just used to having bars being non-smoking. I always order beer, so can't help too much with the drinks. I'd go with a 27-48 crowd. I like to be able to sit down and relax with a beer and talk instead of getting bumped into constantly or fight to get another drink.

First of all Ambiance! It has to have mood lighting, good music, not too loud, unless it's late and there's to be dancing. A long oak bar is always nice, handsome waiters or smiley waitresses, and cozy tables with candlelight. If it has a side restaurant that is always a plus.

dancing, GOOD music, CHEAP drinks prices, NON-smoking, enough seats/tables for everyone. One that's not over-crowded (where you/waitress can actually walk to the bar without bumping into 20 people) air conditioning, pool tables, dart boards, shuffle board.
My age group would be 22-38.
