They are going to take our beloved cartoons from the cereal boxes and stick them on vegetables. I dont not get it! Do they think the kids would eat veges just because a cartoon is on it? I mean we have always seen Bugs Bunny eat a carrot but dose that make us run out and buy them..

I agree that the parents or guardians should have the final say of what foods the kids eat *but* I am also aware of the absurd amount of power the media has upon what people think & consequently what they buy.
There is a stereotype about kids hating most vegetables & this is @ least partly due to the media. Making veggies seem "cool" by having cartoon characters promote them may turn this around & vegetables are so much better for kids than Suger Frosted Whatnots are.
I've seen lots of kids want a specific cereal, fruit snack or whatever b/c of the character on the package or in the comercial & I remember that I was the same way. When I was a kitten, I would ask my mom to buy canned spinach b/c Popeye made it seem like a magic food. Then I wouldn't want to eat it b/c I didn't like the taste (not @ all like fresh spinach). We went through this little routine a couple of times before Mom put a stop to it. Also, I probably ate more carrots b/c of Bugs Bunny.

It's actually a really good marketing tactic. Kids do find bright colors and cartoons more appealing. Why do you think all the boxes of sugary cereal are bright and animated? Imagine if the box was plain brown cardboard, kids would be less likely to ask mommy and daddy to buy that cereal. The marketing strategy, i assume, is to get kids to want to try new veggies and fruits, not get them to like ones they already hate.

I don't think it's any sillier for a cartoon character to endorse any particular food product. Personally, I think anything they use to try to wean children off the dreck usually advertised to them is a good thing.

I haven't seen that but I did see an ad for satellite TV on the back of my cereal box. How stupid!

i think it's another way for parents to refuse to take responsibility for their offspring. it's PARENTS that buy the sugary cereal. they need to learn how to PARENT and say no to their kids every once in a while.
