Here are tips:
1. Take your time - my journey from meat eater took about a year.
2. Start out using some basic substitutes for the meat you are used to in foods where you won't even notice - ground meat replacements are available in the frozen food sections.
3. Leave meat off things that don't need it - pizza, salad, spag, etc.
4. Get some good cookbooks when you are ready to branch into more interesting foods - Moosewood books and New Farm Vegetarian are two of my favorites.
5. If you are worried about what to eat check out the book "Diet for a New America" it will cover many of the health questions.

Many people have different reasons, I became a vegetarian like about 9 years ago practicing yoga and most of the people there were already vegetarians or becoming vegetarians. My best friend in that time was a vegetarian and when we went climbing a volcano I noticed that vegetarians had more energy, then I experienced that myself feeling lighter and with more energy. But changing my food habits wasn't difficult, because I never like that much meat. But then I found out also that in the bible is mentioned about vegetarian people, that we shouldn't criticize the people who eat meat neither they should criticize us.

I was born and raised vegetarian so for me it's very easy to avoid meat because growing up, it was such an alien concept to me, like eating a car. Not necessarily gross, but a strange activity that was hard to imagine myself ever doing.
For people who become vegetarians later in life, sometimes the event that makes them want to become vegetarian is traumatic enough (like seeing a slaughterhouse) that it takes away any desire to ever eat meat, so it's easy to avoid. Others just have a very strong will.

Thank you for asking a logical question, instead of challenging us. :) I've been a vegetarian, for, I'd say, 7 or 8 years now, and it's not hard for me. It was hard at first. I kept eating meat on and off but I finally stopped after awhile, and then eventually I stopped eating fish. I do it because I think it's cruel to take advantage of another living being and cause unnecessary suffering.

I've been a vegetarian for 2 years. It's not really hard to do if it's for a reason. I can't eat animals because I think it's cruel. If people have a good reason to not eat meat, then it comes naturally.

Some people don't eat meat for religious purposes. They haven't eaten meat their life and then maybe one day they might decide to try it but then since they have not eaten meat before and are not used to the taste they might just not want to eat it and some people are vegetarian because they don't want to go against their religion hence never trying meat at all. I hope that's what you are asking..

I just don't buy the stuff.
When I eat out, I eat at quality restaurants. Quality restaurants always have many vegan dishes to choose from. Restaurants that throw in meat, cheese, milk, butter, etc. into every single dish for no reason really do not know what they are doing and are catering to lower class people.

Gradually and you don't beat yourself if you eat something non-vegetarian by accident. You can come in here and ask
questions and get plenty of help. In the mean time learn to
scrutinize ingredients on pre-packeged foods. Ask known
vegetarians about what's what if you are not sure.

I order appetizers and stuffffff... It's really easy, I'm an athlete, so I use protein powder. You feel very moral. The meat industry creates about half of carbon emissions, so it's really good for the environment too.

hmm how do we do it? :) we want to live this way. regardless of why any of us choose to go vegetarian/vegan, it is a choice. so we just check labels or avoid buying things that we don't want to put in our bodies or things that go against our morals/ethics.
