The act of anal intercourse is neither good, nor bad; right, nor wrong.
It is the circumstances around the act that affect the "ethics " of the act. (eg. mutual consent, negotiated safety, respect for your partner, etc,.)
Anal sex can be very pleasurable and satisfying.
But the use of condoms (that DONT CONTAIN A SPERMICIDE, ie, nonoxynol -9) and lots of WATER-BASED lubricant are extremely important. It is also important to take things very slowly at first.

AI has been around as long as human beings, most likely. To be safe, it must be done with a condom, it must be done gently, and it must be done with artificial lubricant. The rectum is not as elastic as the vagina is, so there's the risk of tearing and bleeding. That means the risk of infection, including HIV and AIDS. The rectum doesn't produce any natural lubricant like the vagina does.
There is also the risk of damaging the anal sphincter, the "valve" that keeps poop in until one is ready to go to the toilet. I read of a case of a young prostitute that had had so much violent anal intercourse that the sphincter could no longer do its job, and she had to wear a diaper most of the time.
As to whether it is "right" or "wrong", that's a matter of personal or religious beliefs and moral standards.

Good if you want it and enjoy it, bad if you don't want it and don't enjoy it. Its equally right for you if you want it and bad if you don't. Its a question of personal liking and enjoying it, nothing more nor less.

It's a matter of personal preference.
Personally, I do not think it's natural and I would never participate in it. That part of my anatomy is designed to be exit only.
It's going to stay that way.
