follow your heart makes a vegan cheese: http://followyourheart.com/cheese.php
i've used the nacho flavor as a sub for mac &cheese, and it tastes pretty darn good. my little one loves it. you can typically find this at a health food store, or you can order online.

you can also try healthy eating: http://healthy-eating.com/
they carry dairy-free cheeses, textured soy proteins, soy cutlets, etc. they also deliver.

and one last site: http://foodfightgrocery.com/

OOORRR... you can simply try the recipe on this page: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=14796.0
i use it as a dressing on my fusilli pasta.

like previously mentioned, be aware of soy cheeses. most contain some milk derivative, including whey or casein. make sure you check the ingredients carefully.

best wishes! :o)

Be careful if you have an allergy and don't get anything made with casein. That's the protein that causes the allergy; it's ok for lactose-intolerant people but not if you have an allegry. Most of the dairy free cheeses aren't that great. Tofutti is alright. The powdered cheeses you can't tell the difference, like Soymage Parmesan and Road's End Mac and ChReese.

I am severely allergic to milk. The kind of allergy I have is: 1. lactose intollerant 2. addiction to cheese and dairy. 3. allergies cause your body to gain weight.

I gave up dairy completely and switch to vanilla soy milk. As for cheese - I live in Michigan - not California - and there are few options at the grocery for "cheese". I don't like the taste of the fake stuff and I don't recommend any brands. I just gave it up completely and I honestly don't miss it. I was a cheese addict too!

There are soy cheeses, but just as a warning, a lot of them still have animal products. I don't know if that effects you. I don't really like the fake cheeses, but at Wal-Mart I've found them in the produce section near the bagged lettuce, tofu, and veggie dips, usually in the front of the grocery section. I haven't found any dairy free cheese at my local grocery store (but I live in a pretty rural area).

i'm allergic to dairy, eggs and casein (in all hazard the main ultimate phosphoprotein desperate in milk and cheese). I even have not tried mimicreme yet - even yet it sounds unique!!! stable success. different merchandise i like are Soy backyard™ organic Buttery unfold (dairy-loose) Rice Dream for cereal, Tofutti ice cream sandwiches, Tofutti cream cheese, Vegenase "mayo" (I swear you're no longer in a position to tell that's dairy-loose - it tastes high quality in potato salad, tuna salad and so on.) "MimicCreme is the non-dairy, non-soy option for cream that genuine is each tasty and wholesome. And we make it available to you in 3 types. there is an unsweetened version and a couple of sweetened types. With the sweetened types, one is made out of usual cane sugar and one with a a hundred% usual sugar option. All 3 styles of MimcCreme are a hundred% vegan and kosher."

Some of the soy cheeses are OK if you don't try to pretend it's dairy cheese. You just have to try different ones to see which suits you.

Grocers should have dairy free american cheese as well as tofui, which is a soy based cream cheese. Some have yogurt cheese, which is actually pretty good.

My supermarket doesn't (they sell "veggie" cheese that has casein in it...eww... and I guess that you don't want that crap either)
But Tofutti makes a completely dairy free cheese. Here is the link:

I've also heard that home-made (vegan) cheese tastes good.
Hope that helps.
