Ok I quit a 30 plus year 2+ pack a day habit two years ago so here it goes.

It ain't easy. Don't go any where near cigarettes for the first three days. No where near.

You are going to have some terrible cravings. What got me past those really bad times was this thought......

Who is the human being here? Who is in control? Who can make a decision?

Congratulation on quiting. You can do it.

They say replacing an old habit with a new is a good way to go. Maybe the next time you want a ciggy start writing a journal. Focus on that for a few minutes and hopefully the urge will pass. A friend of mine tried lolly pops. She'd have one every time she wanted to smoke, she's been smoke free for over 5 years. It's awful for your health. Think of the long term side affects of smoking, not only lung cancer but heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, COPD, etc. Good luck to you. Find new habits that will replace the old.

Congratulations and stay away from people who do smoke. Find other things to do. Plan your meals so that you don't overeat. If necessary, join a group of people who have quit smoking - lots of them are around. If nothing else, they will help you in supporting you and you can have someone to call if you are having a bad situation. Get some good books to read. And pray. Give thanks for being able to be strong enough to quit. I admire you. I stopped 15 years ago - cold - and never looked back.

You can do it! Best of luck.

oh, thick pretzel sticks and the Nicotrol Inhaler works well for someone more addicted to the act of smoking (like me)

good choice. stay away from smokers and when you get the urge do something you really enjoy... eat, play a sport, watch porn, etc. keep cigarettes away from you. the first few days will be the hardest but fight it. you can do it. when you quit, you'll find that food smells and tastes better, you're teeth will look and feel cleaner, you wont smell like nasty cigarettes. I as a woman dislike smoking and the smell of cigarettes. you'll improve your health if you go through with this... you only get 1 pair of lungs you know. Good luck.

Chew gum or a toothpick. Howl at the moon. Beat your hands against the walls. Pray.
It will get better.
