Yes, you can live with one lung . Just as you can live with one kidney. It is important that if a patient does have one - he or she must be careful in allowing as few pollutants as possible in the breathing passages, etc. If you have only one instrument in which to help the expiration process, it will place more pressure on that lung.

Lungs work in unison...I would guess that you can "live" at least temporarily, on one lung (like if one collapses) but you need the air-capacity from both lungs to get enough oxygen into your bloodstream over the long term. Seems to me that a person on one lung wouldn't feel very good nor be up for a whole lot besides laying about, especially if they had two relatively healthy lungs prior to this.

Thankfully, it's an organ that you can live with just one. A condition that may warrant a removal of one of your lungs could be lung cancer.

yes you can live with only 1 lung.
My father is actually surviving on 18% of his lungs (overall) ~ So you can live on very little lung capacity.

Many people have a lung removed or part of one removed. It's not an easy thing to endure; it will surely effect your stamina afterwards.

I will tell you way out but you must do exactly as i tell you to do chances are that she may survive for more years do not skip any of this First tell doctor to start with very low chemo dose doctor who gives chemo must be specialist don't allow young doctor or college learning final year student doctor to give chemo ask your mom to stop consuming milk immediately and no milk products like curd yogurt cheese because this is food of cancer cells radiotherapy is safer than chemo, prefer giving radiotherapy whenever possible consume fresh lemon juice with water frequently. lemon juice destroys cancer cell ask doctor to prescribe tamoxifen tablets for mom start giving food supplements with regular food to mother you can visit sites posted below whenever you give chemo to mom admit her in hospital for 3 days from same day chemo is given this is because chemo works after 3 to 12 hours. keep mom away from main city where there is air-pollution away from road or industry or factory. there should be trees around for fresh air buy oxygen respirator in case she feels hard to breathe your mom will live for many years but don't skip anything i have mentioned
