Just for the record, I know how to spell "nonsense" AND "authority".

If you want to become a lacto-ovo vegetarian, the transition should be quite simple. Almost all meats have widely available commercial replacements. All that you have to do is replace any flesh in your diet (beef, pork, poultry, seafood) with meat analogs or just leave it out altogether.

You should keep in mind that a journey such as this can be quite short but should just be the beginning of a longer one to a plant-based diet with no animal products. This is because of the reality of factory farming in which animals that are kept alive to produce milk, eggs, etc suffer much more and longer than animals that are raised to a certain weight and then slaughtered.http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan/

Some people use the word "vegan" in reference to this idea, but be aware that that applying that label to yourself should always come with the inclusion of wise activism and advocacy.http://www.veganoutreach.org/advocacy/index.html
Two extremely important examples of this are that you should never speak to someone about vegetarianism/veganism without their consent and genuine interest or as a comment on what they are eating AND your dietary beliefs should never be used as an introduction or explanation of who you are as a person. Veg*ism should be something that comes up AFTER people get to know you and they offer you a situation that makes it confusing to withhold the information/dicussion. Also, if you are presented something that you choose not to eat or you are
ordering food/eating together somewhere/picking the best place to eat.

When you you hold off on the subject until it's necessary and then act like it isn't a big deal at all, people are usually surprised and WAY more interested and curious than if you were to bring it up when someone's eating or just using it as a conversation starter.

Just to clear things up, the vegetarian/vegan diet is not composed of salads, vegetables, fruit and fake meat.
A balanced plant-based diet includes grains(breads, pasta, rice, cereal), legumes(soy, beans, peas, lentils), fruit and vegetables.

Being vegan can be an art, one whose challenge is to take things that involve the suffering of the innocent and change them into something free of cruelty.

Technically the term "vegetarian" does imply that you don't consume anything that comes from the body of an animal that requires killing it. Many ingredients such as gelatin and glycerin are found in many candies, Fig-Newtons, and many of other foods as well as rennet found in many cheeses.

The best thing to remember is to take your time so that for example: when you are comfortable not eating beef and pork you can then give up chicken when you are sure you can make the commitment permanently.
Depending on your age or reliance on parents or regional options, it may not be best to give yourself a label. The important thing is to do your best to make progress and be committed to your compassion towards animals. Never put your focus onto what you or other people use to describe yourself.

If you meet someone that talks down to people for eating meat, dairy, etc or to you because they think they are "more veg" than you, laugh in their face and tell them they are a disgrace to the entire philosophy. People like this only hurt the idea of veg*ism AND the animals. The point of all of this is to live compassionately and and as free from cruelty as you can, all the while maintaining your health and a positive attitude. People who don't maintain either, need not open their mouths and represent our beliefs.

If you actually choose to read all of this, I hope it helps. If not, feel free to e-mail me if you have questions.

These are some of my favorite things to eat:

Breakfast: bananas, cream of wheat with brown sugar and soy butter, cereal, pancakes or french toast with real maple syrup, vegan "sausage" patties, smoothies.

Lunch: VEGAN "SAUSAGE" SANDWICHES, sandwiches with vegan deli slices(Tofurkey is the only one that's kinda funky), fruit, dinner leftovers, couscous salad, vegan sushi, potato or pasta salad.

Dinner: sloppy joes, "sausage" and gravy with homemade biscuits, Spaghetti and Trader Joe's "meatballs" or TVP, lasagna, Thai pad see ew, pad khi mao(drunkard's noodles), tofu+eggplant with basil sauce, yellow thai curry with tofu or vegan chikn and veggies and jasmine rice, Indian dal with homemade roti or dosai, channa masala, aloo gobi, vegetable or minestrone soup, pizza, STEAMED "PORK" BUNS with potstickers or spring rolls

Being a vegetarian is quite easy really. What I sugest you do is sit down and look at the meals you eat and then look at suplementing the meat content in your recipes. You can change the meat content with lentils, tofu, tempeh, kidney beans, and meat substitutes like Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP)

There are a lot of absolutely wanderful meals that you can make. These are some of the meals that you can eat and i like them more than meat recipes

Go to the web and look for the Vegetarian society - they have great meal ideas. My number 1 best advice is read, read, read. research and read as many vegetarian and vegan cook books as possible. Although Vegan does not use any animal derived products some of the meals are extremely tasty and can be added and tested to see if you like them.

Here's a funny story - my dad loved pies and would buy a store bought meat pi at the shop whenever he could. He was quite old at this time (late 70s) and walked past this shop which had pies in the window so he went to buy one and the lady told him they were vegetarian - so he said he would have one anyway (I think he realised there were no other bakeries about and this was his only chance for a treat) and you would not believe what he said "They were bloody beautiful" and went back for his pie and this was a man who ate meat 2 times a day 7 days week. There are literally 1000s of meatless meals all very tasty and very diverse. Good luck also check out Cooking with Kurma another vegetarian cook who worked for Harre Krishna restraunts, he has some fabulous books.

Edit to Hussein: The biggest mistake people make is when they comence a vegetarian diet is they dont do their research. they dont prepare. They think a vegetarian diet is eating vegetables, well its not!! Firstly a vegetarian diet promotes healthy well planned, well balanced and nutrtious meals. WELL BALANCED is the operative word. Of course you are going to get sick if you just eat lettuce and spinache. But did you eat eggs? Cheese? Dairy? Did you eat Tofu, brown rice, beans, lentils? How about protein shakes? People will get very very sick if dont do their research.
People can live very healthy lives without meat but they really need to do their research. Doctors give vegetarians a bad rap probably because they see so many people sick because they hace not read and researched their new diet.

Okay, I have no idea with being Polish has to do with the question. You can get soy based meat substitutes at most grocery and any health food store. Start eating more beans, lentils, nuts and soy. Invest in a good vegetarian cookbook, or check some out at the library. Go to a website to look at the optimal food combinations.

Just eat more legumes - most of my fave polish dishes are veg anyway like perogies. There are some really good tofus and chickpea mixes that will make yummy sausage replacement - the trick is the spices, once you get your flavors right (make notes in the cookbook) you will be fine! Good Luck!

i'm a vegetarian! i be attentive to what you advise. it extremely is hard to electrify the non-greens. if your husband could have cheese I especially advise something that good factors it. two times baked potatoes could be great. different innovations for a BBQ could be potato salad, quiche, or possibly a quinoa salad could be a great theory because of the fact it has finished proteins on an identical time as nevertheless being vegan. i do no longer advise bringing pretend meats, because of the fact besides the shown fact that i think of they're scrumptious they have an inclination to extraordinary the less-accepting human beings out. i wish that facilitates!

I would strongly advise that you don't become a vegetarian. I'm a self appointed vegetarian & vegan athority. I have preached to all these people one V&V about living the good life and walking taking the "high" road. I can't continue this lie. I've been sneaking hot dogs, hamburgers and even sometimes beef jerky for years. It has ruined my life. I've felt sick and week ever since I started this vegan nonscence. Do yourself and your body a favor and stick to your normal diet.
