I'm in favour of saving on plastic bags but I'm not planning free advertising. I'm happy to advertise a not-for-profit organisation.

Try a local crafts store. Here in the U.S., Michael's is an arts and crafts store that sells blank canvas bags. If you would like to advertise a non-profit environmental group, try searching on-line for the National Wildlife Federation, the Environmental Defense Fund, World Wildlife Fund, Defenders of Wildlife, etc. Thanks for caring!

You could probably order from any number of online retailers. I purchased my plain bags from www.reusablebags.com, and www.greenfeet.com sells them, as well. The Rainforest Site (www.shop.therainforestsite.com) sells bags among their other fair trade products, and a portion of the proceeds go towards saving the rainforests. Just search for "bags."

One consideration with buying online is the energy used (and the cost to you) to ship. And, remember, you reusable shopping bag doesn't have to have to say "reusable shopping bag" on the label...you can use any sort of bag that seems like it will work for you, purchased at any local store or even thrift/consignment shop (super eco-friendly!). I do imagine there are many charities who give these away or sell them, as well...you might want to call some places that you'd like to support to see if they have a bag that will work for you.

I love these guys, because they're small and I can hook them onto my purse or backpack: http://www.reusablebags.com/store/reisenthel-mini-maxi-shopper-long-handle-p-7.html.

Get over feeling guilty and buy the cheapest one or better yet get one for free. Or you can do what I saw recently, go to supermarket with a cart full of reusable bags and when your done shopping go and load them into the back of a BMW SUV. I guess the woman I saw could live with some forms of guilt.

I got my onyabags from a UK website, but they're originally from Australia. You might contact them to see if they have any sellers in Canada or if you can get them sent overseas to you.

They are made of a very light material - parachute silk - that folds up really small so you can just keep one on you (onya!) for when you need one.

They are excellent - I bought a bunch and gave them to all my freinds!!!
