Hmmm, why not get those plastic chairs that don't cost much?
Or you can have them sit on a mat on the grass, like in cartoons! :-)

BYOLC is your answer, also put a couple of blankets down so that it feels picnicy. Use the picnic table as a place to put out all the different tapas you'll serve and move the table length seats away from the table and place strategically so that the guests that don't bring their own chairs can sit and socialize with those on the blankets and those in chairs. It's not bad form, it's an informal picnic not a wedding. Sounds like fun!

♥ Well the good thing is you overbooked for a PICNIC! I wouldnt use the picnic table at all except for food... have a bunch of blankets folded neatly on the table. As the guests come in they can take the blanket, find a spot where they'd like to sit and everyone can have a picnic right there on the ground. :-) It'll be a great experience because many adults haven't experience a "real" picnic in awhile... They all have careers and families to take care of so this will take them back a few years! :-)
Good Luck!

You could always change the location of the picnic. Go to one of your local parks and they usually have a bunch of seating and even grills set up. If that is not an option then call some friends or guests and explain the situation and see if they have some lawn chairs or table you can borrow; they’ll understand. Good luck.

Ask neighbors and friends if you can borrow. Add lawn chairs, those white plastic chairs are usually about $5 each at the dollar store. They also have little coffee tables to go with it. I have even used milkcrates. I will stack them and then put a towel over top. It is also ok for you to ask some of your guest to bring there own chair. I have those fold up one that go into a bag and I leave them in my van, this way I am never with out.

of course it wouldn't be a bad form to ask others to bring a lawn chair...IF they have one. I'm also quite sure that some of your guests may even want to sit on the grass (will you guys be at some park or other grassy area?). I suggest you ask your guests that if they can, to bring a lawn chair if they have one or bring some sort of picnic towel. Another idea is to bring a few lawn chairs or picnic blankets yourself to give to others, and ask your guests whether they prefer table, blanket, or chair. At least a few guests are bound to choose each choice! Problem solved. :)

No problem just ask them to bring there lawn chairs - we do this all the time - most people do not expect a table at a picnic - lawn chairs work fine. Have fun and relax.

Your lawn chair idea sounds good. Or you could have people sit on picnic blankets on the ground and make the picnic table a buffet.

Ahhh, "tapas", that is your key. They are generally table top fare eaten on the streets. You could go without and ensure the use of very sturdy plates, and this will happen weather you have seating or not. But, you might be able to put a 4'x8' sheet of plywood on each end of your pic-nic table and support them with sawhorses, to make your table that much bigger. Then, you can ask guests to bring lawn chairs, or maybe you might be able to borrow them from your church or community center.
Good luck on your party :o)

Bring your own lawn chairs is a must at my house. I use the picnic table to support the food. Cooler under the table, paper plates and plastic utensils + I tie a large garbage bag to one end of the table. Easy to use and easy 4 You.

go ahead and tell people to BYOLC. I have done it many of times, and people are fine with it.. if someone gets pissy cuz they need to bring a chair, then oh well.. use your picnic table to lay out all the food.. that way everyone is in a chair and no one is "left out" from table seating.
