some italian person told me this about cheeses and italian hams. because some of the smells aren't so nice, but they taste delish! thanks for your help.

The most known cheese that smells... that way :) but is considered delicious is gorgonzola. It's not the only one and it's true in other Countries as well. I never heard a saying like that, anyway (that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, of course :)
But I heard "Anche il gorgonzola puzza" ("Gorgonzola smells as well") meaning sometimes you can't rely on just one of your senses.

We have call Parmesan cheese " stinky feet" in our family for over 60 years that I know of. Not that I go around smelling feet but it does have a particular dirty feet smell.
