I'm doing Lava Flows for my DH's Tiki Party. We learned about them in Hawaii.
Buy Pina Colada Mix. Have coconut rum ready. And buy frozen strawberries.
Blend the strawberries. Pour them on the bottoms of the glasses.
Make the pina coladas per the mix recipe.
Pour the pina colada over the strawberry mixture and the mixture flows up like lava! Very cool effect! Guests love them! And its easy to make virgin ones for non drinkers!

What about making a tropical punch. Ginger beer, pineapple juice, rum, cheap champaigne or sparkling wine. Mix to taste and add some fresh fruit, like orange slices, pineapple slices, watermelon, strawberries. Also add some ice cubes and decorate the bowl with some fruit peices too. Then presto you have a fancy tropical beverage for all the party.
For the children if you are having any at the party just make a bowl without the rum and substitute the champaigne with some 7up. And have a great party

LUAU PUNCH
INGREDIENTS
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice
1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
2 liters lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
DIRECTIONS
In an empty gallon milk jug or pitcher, pour pineapple juice and orange juice concentrate. Shake to mix and pour in the lemon-lime soda. You may need to let the fizz settle and then return to pouring. This will fill up the gallon. Freeze overnight.
Let the punch start to thaw 2 hours before serving. Serve slushy.
very cheap...doesnt have much alcohol..something you and your guests will enjoy.
have fun!

I'd make a pitcher of sangria which is sweet red and white wines combined with fruit juices.. extra sugar and cut up fruit in the pitcher.....
and more fruit in bowls to add to the other drinks...
Make sure you have plenty of ice...start making it days before and freeze it in your freezer or refrigerator freezer...
You can also make ice rings plastic molds filled with sprite or fruit juice that you freeze. Add whole pieces of fruit like apples and oranges and lime wedges or strawberries....in the mold...then you place this ice ring in a punch bowl ...and pour your drink over the ice ring....it makes a nice presentation...
Place pineapples around the tables....with other fruits..along side it for decoration..and a few coconuts....and get some of those Hawaiian things you wear around your neck..Leis... .....
.I'm sure the dollar store has them...or a party store...
Lemon or lime aide so you can add alcohol or served plain
also for something a little different....you can make some ice cold coffee drinks...Directions:
In your drip coffee maker make a regular pot of coffee only make it double strength...so when you mix the other ingredients with it and pour over ice it will be strong and not too weak... Add sugar to taste while it's hot so it dissolves.
Now add a combination of whole milk and half and half plus some chocolate syrup...to make it a mocha...you have this all done early and have it chilled in the refrigerator...then when you are ready to serve it....prepare iced glasses and pour the cafe mocha over the ice and top with whipped creme..and sprinkles of cocoa ...YUM YUM....
top with whipped creme...canned or your homemade ....and sprinkles of chocolate or cinnamon...note..sometimes I leave out the sugar and chocolate syrup and add one flavored coffee syrup instead like caramel, hazelnut or amaretto ....
Hope this helps.....you can add alcohol to any of the drinks ...so keep a variety handy like rum or slo gin...to accompany the fruit drinks...
Bye for now...write if you need more info..Mama Jazzy Geri

A budget saving and more low calorie pina colada:
canned pineapple, in it's juice, crushed in a blender
add
pineapple juice, low fat pina colada yogurt (can be a terrific money saver vs the traditional coconut milk), coconut milk (can add this or opt for just the yogurt)
coconut rum, dark rum
mix together
set in a pitcher, let your guests add the ice
HULA!!!

Malibu Coconut Rum and Vodka should be enough liquor to get you by. I had a drink yesterday that was YUMMY! It was champagne with pineapple and cherry juices. You could either get a cheap bottle of champagne or do that with the Malibu. You definitely need fruit juices though!
