Here is a list of phone numbers for WIC (Women with Infants/Children), which is a food program specifically for people like you. People with health problems are given highest priority.

Also, I've never heard of a church that does not have an emergency food pantry.

Please...this person didn't ask for judgements...she asked for help.

Try a local food bank or even a church or homeless shelter (you don't have to live there, just go for the food). Harvest Food Bank is in the phone book and as far as I know, they are in every Southern state.

You can also contact Social Services again to see if you can get an emergency food order. Since you have already been approved for disability and food stamps, you should not have any problem getting an order for food.

Good luck.

Not sure about alabama, but there are some states that have local food pantries that help people in your situation. They would be mor ehten happy to lend a hand. Look thru your local phone book, as one of these places should be in your area.I hope this helps, good luck ( they will be quick to help knowing that you have a yound child to feed as well. And for just wondering, You are correct about WIC, except that they quit helping after the child reaches 5 years of age. They are a FED. program and should be the same nation wide.

Please go with the first answer. Alabama is in the South. By God there has to be something. Don't steal from any livestock, even a chicken -- some of the southern states consider that rustling. Don't get anything in the way of a criminal record taking from a grocery store, then you've got Child Protective services playing Mammy Dictator ready to take your child. It's Sunday. Try a Protestant church. I know many Methodist have an evening social meal.

Hi. You can call church's. Alot of them have emergency food boxes you can get. You can call your food stamp office and they should have a list of resources for your area and can give you numbers of places that can help. I have been in your situation, I know its hard. Hang in there!

You need to call your local churches and shelters. They will be able to hook you up with some food. Large churches usually have a food pantry for the needy, at least they should.

Try a food bank or shelter. Just call and call around untill you get an answer. There has to be something out there.

not being sarcastic, diabetes is not something that should be keeping you from getting a job to at least partially support yourself. i know many people with severe diabetes who work and do not collect disability or welfare, and i myself am disabled and work... and i raised two children alone, one of whom is disabled himself.

to answer your immediate question, go to a local church. most have food pantries and will give you enough food to make basic meals to get by for a few weeks. even if they do not have a pantry themselves, they will know where to send you.

good luck, and stop looking at diabetes as a disability and live a whole life as a whole person instead! you also have a child to think about.

If it were me I would ask myself to be serious, & do a reality check & make sure I really need that disability check or not. Because I would have a guilty concious if I really could be working for my seven year old son or just keep showing him what 90% of this community already does which is begging for a free way of life. Maybe his generation will make it 100% way of free & abusive living off those who really try day & night.
