Purely it is just an emotion. Though scientifically it is something that stimulates and excites the limbic system within the brain. This then leads to a random sequence of events. Such as heart rate increasing along with respiration rate, hesitation, lots of different things. But there is always that 'mask' if you will. Sometimes this 'feeling' is only temporary within the limbic system, this therefore leads to two people falling 'out' of love, yet if it is true, then it will constantly be stimulating the limbic system, and this will be permanent.

Brain chemicals (I think dopamine) secreted in the presence of lover, or thoughts of lover, which bond you to the image & other aspects of the person.
