Christians eventualy get tired of explaining things to those who's sole intentions are to discredit their faith, as they will ALWAYS come up with a reason why your explaination is not good enough. The have already formed their oppinion on Christianity, thus are unable or unwilling to consider any point a Christian makes as a possibility.
The truth is not simple, and able to be stated fully with one sentence, or several paragraphs for that matter.
We explain to them the best we can, and they dismiss it because it could'nt all be explained to them in right from the get go.
The Bible has told us things that scientists are only now figuring out. The food laws in the Old Testament for instance, contains certain foods that are clean, and unclean, healty, and unhealty to eat, and are what dietitions and scientest are just now discovering contributes to better health and longer life.
The fact is, Athiests REFUSE to even take the effort to research the very faith they are bashing, afterall, it was only about one minnute after Patriot311 posted his answer that somebody voted him a thumbs down, and unless you are a speed reader, then his post would certainly take a FEW MINNUTES to read!!
This is exactly what I am talking about. An Athiests will ask a Christian to "convince " them that there is a God, yet will NEVER be convinced because they don't want to be. It is obvious most of them have never really read a Bible, because some of what they ask Christians to explain, are in the Bible in PLAIN ENGLISH, and if they realy wanted to know about Christianity, and not just patronize and slam Christians, then they would pick up a BIBLE and read it!!!
I don't blame a Christian for not wanting to dignify the Athiests harassment with a response. For those who do, I commend you, as it is not easy trying to teach a brick wall.
That is like trying to teach a dog to fly, which is rather impossible in itself, when it is afraid, or unwilling to leave the ground.

well i hope mine is not generic, i have a slighlty high iq, (despite my typos lol) so here goes, i belive the way i belive becuse of history, not science, i start with the assumption, that everything we see had to have a start, if that start was caused by gasses exploding, what caused the gasses to explode, what created the gasses, i know the counter to this is who created the creater, i think its a perptual motion type of an answer, it just has been, what ever it is, god, creater, intelligent designer, what ever, this all had to have a start and many scientific theorys on it are, pardon the pun, holy, now if you read genisis, god made it all in 6 days, but, according to it the earth wasnt made till the "third day" now lets look at that, how long were these "days" before then? a normal day is of course 24 hours, who is to say it wasnt 25 hours, or 30, mabye it was a week, mabye a year, mabye ten thousand years or even 10 million, with this perspective, genisis and science become a little more friendly in my view granted no human knows, but who is to say there is not a god, its easyer, at least for me anyway to belive in a creator, becuse i see the creation, same way i understand the realtionship of lets say an apple, i see it and i belive it started as a seed in the ground, i may have never seen the ground the tree grew out of or the apple on it, but it had to be there at one point. i hope this helps i tried to make it thought out, and not another run of the mill fundi answer i dont care for those kind either

Well I wont say none of the supposed answeres you assume, but i will say, I dont believe Religion and believing in a higher power whether you call God, or anything thing else is the same, i am not Religious \yet I believe in a god, higher power source of it all, life, i am a spiritual being, and I wont argue from a being in a higher power or choosing not to, as that is a choice we all have, and no good or bad to it it just is, however if you are curious of a higher power God whatever there is a great reading material called conversations with god, its not religious as the title may suggest, as i dont believe in the bible and i belong to no religious group. As long as your happy and your beliefs works for you who cares what others think:)

I'm also annoyed by thoughtless, unintelligent, nominally "religious" people. And I'm a very strong Christian myself! Please know that not all Christians are like that, even though even I'll agree that most probably are! :(
That said, here's my best intellectual explication for what I believe. I'm perfectly fine with agreeing with science 100% up to and including the big bang (for those of you keeping score, that means I'll also gladly accept evolution). But what caused the big bang? What was the "First Cause"? That's where God comes in for me, scientifically. But, hey, I may be wrong! (Ever hear a Christian say that!?) I have no problem conceeding to science at all... I think God is smart enough to figure quantum physics out. That's just how God made the world work.
So, yeah, believe whatever you want. If God is a loving God and not a butt-hole... he'll love you unconditionally. Jesus died for everyone, not just the nominally righteous.

Even the most versed theologian can only go so far explaining things then they come to a wall and everything beyond that point is a leap of faith
The problem with most people is they don't really know the book they follow the go to church in whatever form and listen to what is given then go home and put the book up till the next trip.

I went to a christian bookstore today (no I didn't catch on fire) and I looked through a few things. They actually teach Christians how to counter atheist and other religious arguments. "Show them how much you care about them, don't be afraid to quote the bible, etc." I also saw a pastor teaching children to quiet dissent with this little gem: "God said it, I believe it, that settles it." I don't think it is possible to have a real conversation with these people, and to them, avoiding the conservation is the whole point.

I fell sorry for you, u mus be very angry. I'll pray for you, and maybee someday yule learn to have FAITH and oppen your hart to the TRUTH!
Kidding! I'm an atheist.
I couldnt resist, sorry!
I know exactly how you feel. But get used to the fact that they pretty much exhausted all their ammo during the Dark Ages.
We know some things now so they're in a bit of a fix.
Cant beat blind faith though.
Plus faith counts for a lot when you have absolutely nothing. What if there's a chance, they tell themselves. Some chance versus none.
Of course this line of thinking taints any chance they have of realizing their potential during the limited time available.

Religions are ways of ordering people's perceptions of the world, encouraging them to ask certain questions and not ask others, to give greater validity to certain answers and not others.
Christianity takes this tendency and runs with it. Paul's writing are superb at limiting the sorts of questions he wants his followers to ask and very narrowly defining the sorts of answers he's willing to let them consider.
Not all religions are this narrow. Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism are quite broad, as is modern paganism. But even the second Vatican council couldn't really bring it into mainstream Christianity.

I agree. But maybe you're asking in the wrong place. Yahoo answers is full of hicks...racists...homophobes...hyper religious numbskulls...12 year olds...sexual predators...hypocrities etc. They are drawn to the place. They contaminate it with their bile and ignorance. I used get fired up about them too...thinking I could make them see reason. However, this is impossible. Their punishment however, is themselves. Remember: no one is like this in the real world...and if they are, they are too embarrassed to voice their prejudiced opinions in public. Thats why they cower in yahoo answers :P/

look my belife in god is simple he has a sense of humor this i know for fact because people like you are obsessed with what other people think if you really think about it your existence is a sad pathetic shell of a life whos only pleasure seems to be by pointing out how right and smart you are , while showing how dumb and pathetic others are , when in all reality when you have no one to argue with you go on rants in your own head about how everyone should see things your way. You asked for a non generic answer from a christian if thats what i am so heres one.For whatever reason your angry and your desperate to find someone or something to blame, if it hadnt been religion or god , it would have been goverment and taxes etc etc.you are a whiner and a drain on society have a great day and yes ill pray for you.
