That would depend on your current feelings and the point that you are try to bring across in a particular moment in time. If you go to...

I use several versions of the Bible and like to have 2 or 3 out when I'm reading so I can understand what I'm reading. I enjoy the King James Version but I don't speak old English so it's not easy to understand.

You can Read Proverbs and get General Knowledge of Wisdom to live on the Earth.
If your Getting Serious about wanting to Know GOD (and get to Heaven)
Read the Gospel of JOHN
Then, get an Amplified Bible so you can use it to understand the Words in the King James Bible.
Ditto.

Not really sure what you were trying to say in the last 2 lines but hopefully this will help you with your question.
If you've haven't really read the Bible before I would suggest that you read the New International Version or the Message. It is a lot easier to understand with all the thees and thous.
Good luck and I hope that helps!

Cindy, I don't think that is an issue that you need to concern yourself with and it really does not matter to most people whether you embrace Christ, Mohamed, Jehovah or Idi Amin for that matter. If you are comfortable with your religious principles and they are acceptable to most (viz you do not staple animals to the floor and sacrifice them in public etc.) the "average" person will give you the leeway to pursue it. Unfortunately (from the mails) it would appear that some are antagonistic towards others spiritual beliefs but they are in the minority and their heckling is to be ignored with the contempt it deserves.
As for versions of the Bible - irrespective of version the schedule of rules stays the same. I promise you when you get to the pearly gates or wherever you go to, you will not be asked which version you followed. Your actions in this world will be measured. So.. heads up, smile and be counted.
Hope that helps

"I always suggest that people start reading at the Gospel of John, first book in the New Testament. It will begin to unfold as you read it. The Kink James is by far the best so stick with that. God bless! "
I think he had 3 Gospels worth of pages ripped out of his Bible ;-)

if it is a problem understanding because James is written in old English try a modern translation
If it is just looking for answers try talking with someone who knows the bible well and they can point to areas and narrow the reading
lots of luck it is one of the driest books ever produced by man

i dont claim to be smart, but the king james is a good starting point, it is missing sevreal books which luther did not agree with (1000 years after they were put in the bible) and wanted to take out james "an epestil of straw not worthy the gospel message" and revlation. if you want to seriuosly study the bible i sugest getting the new american bible, it is a catholic bible, but it has the books in it that were not removed, the books in the old testement that jesus himself would have read and have read to him in temple

I'm not a know it all, you should read the version that you are able to understand the easiest. I read the king james version, but that is what I grew up with. There is the NIV which is written in modern English.

Its called the Holy Quran I suggest you read that first, then read the rest, but don't just read one, read them all and then come back and tell me I was wrong..... if you walk down the street do you not look side to side and behind you... if you only read one book you may as well take away your peripheral vision
