no, but dont put her on the app. if you have good credit, and get a credit card. dont put her name on the application. only you. after about 6 months to a year of having that card add her name to your card thats called "piggybacking" as long as you pay on time and keep up with the card. this will give her a credit history without her doing anything. YOU MUST PAY ON TIME. but if you do this only do it for family, no one else.

No, unless you are applying for a joint account.

If you are applying for credit in your name only they will not, and legally cannot, look at your wifes credit.

Your wife should try to build up her credit if she hasn't started to yet. She would probably have to start with a secured card. She should speak with your/her bank or credit union and see what they have to offer.

Generally no, but if you are in a community property state they CAN look at her credit as well as yours even if you are the only one applying for credit.
