Really? I didnt notice...I just remember the big beard...any way, happens that in those times (some centuries after Jesus die) when Constantine become christian and he started to use religion as a political weapon to unify his empire (and romans would do the same later) he found out that the best way of teaching christianity to people was using icons (such as this u mention) coz he realized that before christianity people had a lot of deities represented in a material way (most of the time through human shapes) so what this guy did was to adopt the stories of Zeus (and the rest of the mythology structure) to the christian creed. After all it was easier this way than trying to make people believe suddenly in only one God who is intangible and who is not like anything in this earth.

And unfortunately this intelectual undevelopment (to conceive a non human God) still remains in the minds of many. If u study mythology and compare it with christian creed then u will realize about all this tricks the ancient politicians did.

Because Zeus has influenced much of the artwork surrounding God. Zeus = big muscles, flowing white hair, toga. Same difference.

By the way, ever wonder why Jesus is a chestnut-haired Caucasian guy in Jerusalem at the turn of the millennium? At least he should get a tan, living under all that sun....

Nordic Vilkings drew those pictures. Wouldn't you have to question ALL pictures of God. I've seen him look like Santa, I've seen Alanis Morrisett play God! I've see God in a cartoon article as a talking foot. Who cares about pictures, people are nuts. When you close your eyes and picture God Who do you see. I see James Earl Jones. I don't know why and I wish I could stop it.

Because the artists depicting God were (mostly) Northern Europeans, or or Northern European descent. They take too literally the saying that man was created in God's image.

Since the God of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) is the God of Israel, God (and Jesus) should be depicted as a Sephardic Jew, in my opinion: dark hair, swarthy complexion. It would be more authentic-seeming.

Good Question!
I guess because the Nordic God pictures are more pleasing to us. But if you look up the shroud of Turin on the puter it will (I think) show you what they say he looked like..an Arab!

sry, im not sure if its my imagination or if it was real but i think i remember being in heaven b4 being sent to earth to be born, i had a conversation with God. But i cant remember his face very well, so i paint it like i would think it would best leave a God-sized impression on people.

Because it's usually the people who win the massacres and genocides who get to paint the pictures.

consider the possibility that Odin raped every single woman on this planet at once.

Then vikings + god = explainable.
