It doesn't sound like that would have helped any. But did it have anything to do with the "accident" in the first place?

This answer is not to belittle the question.
But when I was a kid I was a huge fan of a college football team with a religious affiliation. Every year it seemed they would get so close, and every year they would fail. As a 9 year old I used to wonder why God would let "his" team fail.
The answer is this: God wasn't on the football field.
what kind of world would this be, if God controlled the outcome of every event both large and small, based on the righteousness of the characters of the event?
I premise this by adding I was raised in a strict religious family but no longer "practice" organized religion. With that said, in the bible some of Jesus' disciples asked Him about a blind man. They asked "master, who sinned, this man or his parents?" The answer was "neither. Sometimes these things just happen".
I think a more pertinent question is not "why", but "what" are you and what is he (your father) going to do about it.
But, in answer to your original question, yes his face would still have been blown off in the accident.

every thing in life is planned by him before time began . Even terrible things like your daddy losing his face has a reason, and He never asks more of you than what you are able to bear. You are like a precious object of steel tempered by fire.Your family has shared a crucible thats made you all closer, purer and stronger and you can bet its for a greater purpose beyond our understanding at this time

You know what, that actually happened to my father and I find your question very disturbing. I would never ask a question like that and for you to do so, might be a sign that you have some unresolved issues about your dad that you need help for. I'm not trying to be mean I'm just telling you what I think. And you know what, my dad could have been a pastor and he still would have died. And thanks by the way for bringing up very sad memories for me!

Yes, if your dad was more of a righteous dude, God probably would've liked his surfing skills and thus prevented this horrible tragedy.

God Bless you....
That's impossible for us to know...sometimes God uses things like that to wake us up and get our attention. sometimes it's just a symptom of a corrupted and sinful world where bad things happen. Either way, God can work this to your father's good, if he accepts the Lord and works towards righteousness.
Those that tell you that they know why it happened, you can be sure they know nothing...

No, your dad's accident was just that, an accident. God did not will it, and it just happened. There is nothing you could have changed to make it happen differently.

I think it's silly to blame anything on if you prayed or didn't pray, or didn't pray enough, Or being righteous. Accidents happen. There is nothing else to it.

More righteous? ... Not sure if that can be. Either your righteous or your not. So my answer would be "No". Anyhow, it was just an accident. Hope his recovery goes well....;)
