I would definitely do away with the top 35. It should be the fastest of the fast. The chase should be like it was started just the top ten or go back to the championship. No More "cookie cutter" tracks! In my opinion, NASCAR is getting ready to fall on its face.

Yeah, Make the top 35 the top 20. Yes, the true contenders need to be protected from the random crash during qualifying. No, 35 don't need to be protected. It doesn't give any sort of competition. Also, for the top 20, I would like to see that implemented only after the first five races. The only racers that would get the protection for the first five races would be the teams that made it into the chase. A top team will be able to recover from missing a race at the early part of the season.
The other thing I would change would be the lucky dog rule. There is no reason to GIVE a lap to someone. Not only that, but if you are multiple laps down, then you never have a chance if there are a few guys only one lap down. The way it should be done is by proximity. If car(s) one or mor laps down are within a certain number of car lengths of the lead car, the you would get your lap back. It would beckon back to the days when the lead driver would allow a few drivers by that were laps down before they hit the start/finish line before rules were implemented to stop high speeds at cautions.
There is so much more that can be done, but these are the big ones for me.

I understand the sport needs to keep sponsors and that sponsors want their car in the race every week, but I would still do away with the top 35 automatically being in the race. Qualifying speed should determine all the drivers that get to race.
Like the chase, but wish the chase races (i.e. the last 10) would be only with the drivers in the chase. Maybe they could make the chase include the top 20 drivers, thus giving them enough to have a good race field (heck IRL and Champ Cars have less that that each week). They could have a cup race on Saturday with the non-qualified drivers who still compete for points and prize money, and the Chase race on Sunday.
I know, I know. It will never happen, just an idea.

Where to start. Do away with the top 35 in owners points being locked in. Make it more democratic... let the car/team owners have a say prior to the institution of new rules and changes that affect the sport. Set it up so that no one man (Brian France) is all-powerful. Do away with Nascar (Brian France) being able to have conflicting business interests that affect the sport. (He has affiliations with both Goodyear and Dupont with his marketing company) Publicize a set of rules and regulations and stop enforcing them arbitrarily. Set out a standard set of penalties for rules infractions rather than just making them up on an incident-to-incident basis. Make it more fan friendly. Place some value on the fans and not solely on revenue.
People don't realize that Nascar isn't an organization... it's a company OWNED solely by the France family. I could go on and on. I've been watching this sport since the early 50's and unlike those who have been watching for three or four years, I remember what our sport used to be. When different manufacturers had a say in the design of their cars. It's become a field of "cookie-cut" cars with no difference other than the emblem on the hood. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but regardless of the popularity growth of the sport, the sport itself has suffered. Hell, it's more a business these days than the true sport it once was. Consider the fact that we're now watching more commercial than actual race. Is that more fan friendly than it was a few years ago??? I sure don't see it.

Hate the chase for the cup and the top 35 rule does way more damage than good. I'd find a way to qualify the last 20 or so cars using heat races, or maybe just qualify the whole darn field that way. Throw single car qualifying out. I'd also get rid of many of the dumb rules that makes it difficult to set up a race car, like many of the shock and spring rules. Impound races need to also disappear. That's pretty stupid.

I would like to see them do away with the chase and just go by points only and I would like them to do away with with the top 35 in qualifying and make everyone qualify on time and not give provisional. If you can't qualify your car then you shouldn't be in the race. The provisional knock cars and driver out of the the race that spends a lot of money and time getting ready for the race and if there better that week they should be in the race.

I would get rid of the chase. Id rather see a driver win by 1000 points then see a driver win the cup who hasnt earned the most points throughout the season.
I would change it so cars not passing inspections get the DRIVER and team suspended for a week or 2 for several reasons. Its a good detterant for cheaters. Who wants to lose points for not being able to race. It also makes the drivers learn whats going on with their cars and take responsibility for their team.
Ending the race under caution or with less laps due to rain. It makes it safe yes. It doesn't add to the thrill or fairness to fans and drivers. Make them finish under green flag and make them race the next day if there is rain. Even if they have half the race finished.
Freezing the field when caution comes out. Yes it is a good idea. But if your on pit road when it happens or are coming off pit road but not on the track you SHOULD be one lap down.
Lastly I think Nascar should explain their rules much better. It would end some of the headache for fans and make for less mistakes on driver and the teams part.

Not really a fan of the chase... I wish the championship was decided by the series period.
Top 35 is a joke, the best team that weekend should be rewarded.
Penalties should be rougher. If you fail prerace, you go home, if you fail post race you aren't allowed at the next race.

I hate the COT there is nothing wrong with the cars that they currently use. I also hate the top 35, cut it down by 10 and I would be fine with it. I believe that the top 25 drivers should be in the race.
