I'm not sure but I think a lot of people have jumped on the band wagon to get some money. What I am sure of is only 2% of Priests have been actually proven to commit these acts, NOT THAT I"M SAYING EVEN THAT IS ACCEPTABLE.
Where I live if a priest is even accused of anything like this he's taken out ot his church that very day and sent for therapy until something can or cannot be proven.
And even if it's a lie, he can never go back to that particular church.

For the same reason other people do. The only reason make such a big deal out of priests doing it is because they are "trusted". There are sick people in every race, religion, and gender. It's like asking why female teachers have sex with students. There is no good answer. Not every priest does this, just as not every female teacher does this. Such is life. Some people are just sick.

For the same reasons many other perverts do the same.

The vast majority of Catholic priests are good men, who would never even think of doing anything like that.

Next to the actual victims of these crimes, the good priests are the ones who are most harmed.

The devil must be laughing his tail off right now.

Because those few are sexual predators and sexual predators tend to put themselves in positions where they have easy access to victims. Hence, child molesters often try to find work where they are able to access trust in the community while being able to act out sexually against their victims. It's sad it happens and obviously not all priests, scout leaders, teachers, etc. are predators, but it's the kind of work these predators look for. It has nothing to do with religion.

Priests are meant to be good, honorable men, and the vast majority of them are. Unfortunately, a small group of snakes somehow managed to sliver their way in.

That small minority committed a severe betrayal of trust that I am not certain even God can forgive.

Man, I'm looking for an answer to that one myself. Somebody should really do something about that problem. There's alot of people in suffering over what happened to them as a child. It's not right, and the RC church needs to make this there #1 issue NOW.

They are predators looking for a welcoming place to act out their evil. This sexual abuse has been going on for hundreds of years. It didn't just start recently. The Catholics have been hiding and condoning these behaviors for a long time. That is why so many of the archbishops from the US have been relocated to Rome. It is the church's way of protecting the animals.

Why?

All positions of authority and trust can be abused. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, camp counselors.....

Would you like to fix the world? Don't ask lawyers to do it.

Fix your own world, and don't let anyone establish a relationship with your kids so they can be abused.

Most importantly, communicate with your children well enough so that they can tell you if something is wrong.

???? First, many in the church are doing accusing. 2nd, the entire hierarchy of the church despatched those CRIMINALS around, to rape yet greater little ones. The church as an entire is to blame for each rape of each and every newborn, finished with the help of clergymen they already KNEW have been rapists. If the church government had finished the suited element, they'd have prevented almost all the rapes of little ones. And "mistake" is the incorrect observe -- heinous CRIME is what it somewhat is. Raping a newborn is unlike dropping some thing or stubbing one's toe.
