It means humility. Humility could be described as being teachable, willing to listen. Gratitude and reliance upon God for help are aspects of humility. Honesty about ourselves and valuing other people as much as we value and respect ourselves are some more aspects of humility.

Cheese and Rice: That's really sad what you say about your parents. I hope I never do that to my kids.

Latter Day Saints aren't the only ones who have heard this phrase. It means to understand that you are one of millions on planet earth and not to think more highly of yourself and your own intelligence than you should. While we are equally as valued as any of mankind, we are also equally under qualified to think our mind and understanding is superior. There is a higher intelligence.

It means to be humble, and contrite, if you are trying to atone for a sin you have committed, and you are asking for forgiveness from the Lord! You MUST be 'lowly in heart' as in " Lord, please forgive me, I know I have done wrong, and I truly promise to NEVER do this again!"!
Most people know when they have done something they are not supposed to do, or commit a sin! So,most people also know the feeling of guilt, that compels them to ask for forgiveness!
Hope this helps to answer your question!

I've never heard that before... at least not in english since my church meetings, books and missionaries visits are in spanish and there are some terms that are a little different in english and I'm not like a very good english speaking girl, hahha...

But what I think it means is someone with a cold heart, not a good person, someone with not very good feelings, something like that ^_^

[edit]: Oh Oh... I just read the other answers and it looks like had it wrong , I missunderstood it? oh well... I just learned something new tonight ^_^

Non judgementalness
Prideless
Futureless
Childlike
Non-questioning
Conforming
Devaluation of self
Thoughtless, as in "absence of thought"
Easily fooled and manipulated
Mesmerized

I thing that's why my parents beat us down so bad when we were kids. They wanted to keep us "lowly in heart", so nothing we did was ever good enough. If they would have actually built us up and encouraged us, it would have been a sin.
