I would first say no because you should never quit anything.
But with the attitude that you have I would say yes go ahead and quit. Your coach and teammates dont need someone out there thats not going to be out there enjoying it or thinking the team can do it without you.
I think you will be very surprised at what the team can do without you and how easily replaceable we ALL are. In life dont ever think you or any of your co-workers, teammates, etc. or irreplaceable, we all can be replaced.
I also think YOU will be surprised at how much you miss it when you arent out there and when they are winning without you, you will be even more bummed out.
Good Luck in YOUR Decision...

well, if your school is like mine, the season doesn't start for another 3-4 weeks
if this is the case, don't run at all until then. Just stop right away today, and tell yourself that you're not going to run for a month... that simple.
Chances are, after the first week, you'll be eager to start running again, because you'll notice the lack of endorphins and all the other benefits running gives you.
If it takes more than a week, if it takes the entire 3-4 weeks, don't sweat it. You don't have to make your decision yet.
But in the end, if you still just do not want to do it, then don't. But if you're feeling like you don't want to do it just because you've lost your conditioning, try it and see how it goes. You may find that you actually enjoy going into a season not expecting much from yourself. This puts far less pressure on you, and in some peoples cases, this makes them run faster!
Just keep running fun and don't take yourself too seriously, and you'll be okay.

Tough call. If the thrill is gone maybe you should quit.
I wouldn't though. I'd stick with it at least a little longer and see if I pulled out of my funk. There are times when I don't feel like running but I usually get over them after a while. If you quit the team then there may be no going back. Give it some time and try to motivate yourself back into it. Maybe talk to a friend or two on the team about it too.

I was the number 1 runner and mvp on my high school cross country team for my sophmore and junior years. Both years I was all county. I started my sophmore year which is the only reason I wasnt the mvp my freshman year. The cross country team itself was horrible. We were 3rd in the county, and I was the only fast one. It was a lot of work to keep in shape and I was frustrated in my teams effort. My senior year I quit. My coach was upset with me but my heart wasnt in it. Looking back on it now I do not regret my decision. My team finished last in the county and I was having fun with freinds and concentrating on school work. You are going to have people tell you to come back but once the season starts you wont have to hear about it anymore. I suggest you stop running.

It sounds like you have burned out a little bit.
The best course of action is clearly do what you really want to do. If you don't want to run, then don't.
My only suggustion is that if you think you just need to take a season off, you may want to consider gutting out XC and taking the winter (indoor track) off. Indoor track isn't very important. There will be less backlash from your teammates, and it will have less effect on your performance from there on out.
Good luck.

Never give up, dont ever quit! You need to practice, and put your heart into it, and race every race like it were your last. I think that if you quit, sure your team is gonna be upset, but thats not the reason i think you shouldnt quit, i think that if you quit you are giving up, and saying you cant do it, i dont know why your quitting, and i know its more than "i just dont feel like running anymore" their must be a reason weather its the practices, the coach, teammates, or what ever, but i think you need to get out thier and try your best, try to be number one, if you give up, i promise you, you will regret it, youll be missing out on so much. You should be proud to run, to have the thrill and the feeling of accomplishing so much. Dont give up, dont ever give up! - Jimmy V!!!!!. Try your best, get through it and never let yourself down, just push your self and find that feeling again, the feeling of greatness, and the thrill of just being on that team.
Hope this helps.

your team would probably feel kind of let down...I know that on my team if the number three runner just quit unexpectedly...we would get owned!!!!!!!! Besides it's not like you have to do track or x-c when you're a senior.

Besides the guilt you're feeling about quitting, it sounds like you might have some genuine interest in being on the team still, so I'd say give it some thought.

No wonder !!! You have been burnt out. But you signed onto the team also. If you haven't registered for xc yet, then don't. After you sign up and attend meetings and begin practice, I feel you have an obligation to carry on. But before that, you just don't have to sign up.
Good Luck

dont force yourself to do it if you really dont want to. it happened to me last year with another sport.. and i ended up hating that sport because i forced myself into when i didnt wanna do it anymore. just dont make yourself do anything. from what it sounds like.. you've got a lot of talent and your team could do well this year. you might start to like it in a little bit .. we all have the days when we hate it. but i would stick to it for a little longer and then decide .. based on yourself .. not your team!
hope that helped!
good luck!
